So I was driving the Porsche back from the shops yesterday, the last time we had to use it before it is handed back and I hear a huge loud bang from the roof area. I pulled over immediately to inspect the car to see what made the very worrying noise only to see the rear screen was broken, looks like something hit it and torn it in half, it was going opaque so would have to be replaced by the next owner, how unlucky is it for it to fail on the last trip we were going to make in it.

Now I can't hand the car back with damage otherwise they charge me a fortune for the repair, so I have until 1PM Wednesday to not only find someone who can replace a window in the roof but get the job done, and I am pretty much fully booked at work...................................................

Had better days I must admit. Any one want a 2002 Boxter for 8.5K?? Needs a rear screen otherwise perfect??????????

They don't cover "plastic" screens, fallen prey of small print there unfortunately.

Hate to say it but it sounds like autoglass and insurance glass excess will be by FAR your easiest route - if they do glass in soft tops that is. They're only in Stacey Bushes :thumbup1:

Edit: ******, just read your above post. Buy it now off eBay?

I had a chat with 3 body shops, one of them has a contact with a smart repair guy who does soft tops:p. He replaces just the screen and even lives in Milton Keynes.

The repair will take 1 hour to remove the roof, 30 mins to an hour to sow in a new screen and seal it, then 24 hours in a garage to let the sealer harden. Then 1.5 hours to replace the hood.

Biggest bonus is after explaining the situation he is willing to do it tomorrow morning. So if all goes well it will be ready to go on Weds PM!!

Thank the lord for small bonuses (and useful internet searches)
