I don't know much about the supercharger conversion - does it keep the AFM or does it move the engine to MAP based management? If it keeps the AFM then the air filter condition won't make much difference but if it moves to MAP management then it will need to be spot on clean.

IME the cat has to actually be on fire before the warning light will come on. Admittedly that's in a different car but it's just gonna be a temperature sensor and because the cat's operating temperature is so high in normal conditions it has to be insanely high before it'll trigger a warning.

I'm not totally convinced by the 'higher octane fuel burns cleaner' argument either - octane rating is not a fuel purity scale, it's a measurement of resistance to abuse before pre-ignition/detonation. So what you really want is the closest RON rating you can get to whatever your car is mapped to run on!

Sorry to hear about your problems Mr Mole! Sad

If the MOt tester is your mate, then you don't want him to do anything that makes him uncomfortable but to be honest I do think you just need to find a "friendly" MOT station. With the number of Scoobies/Evos around your end (most I bet running fully decatted) their must be a few about!!

Wish I could help!

having a dirty air filter can confuse a car though trust me the amount of times i've removed an air filter to get a car through its mot!!!
a car we'll say is like a human body if i put a rope round your neck and pull it tight your body adjusts your breathing to suit but you still get breathless if you know what i mean.
a blocked air filter does the same although the car changes the fueling to suit the blocked filter it will still run rich.
yes cleaning the foam filter is fine thats how i used to clean mine.

TTE supercharger,pr0lex manifold,hks fcd,larger intercooler,apexi induction kit,silicone hose kit,IK22's,polished engine parts,TTE front bumper mod'd for intercooler,TRD side skirts,TRD rear lip,JDM headlights and fogs,10k hid headlights 8k full beam,L8XSS p/plate,fog/brake/light conversion,18"fox rs's,lowered 90mm(f)100mm®,moleys under bars,yellow trd anti rollbars,full stainless exhaust,carbon fiber intake plus so much more

Nice analogy - remind me not to upset you:blink:

Not having a cat won't automaticly fail your MOT - however if the emissions are to high clearly it will fail, some of these Scooby's/Evo's run their engines exceptionally hot and then insert the MOT magic wand up the exhaust - hey presto a pass without a cat. This is how mine went through - a very hard run and fingers crossed, no cat (or air filter) and a pass (just - really only just) now mine is all mapped and done passing the MOT will be a fair bit easier!!

2tongues Not having a cat won't automaticly fail your MOT - however if the emissions are to high clearly it will fail, some of these Scooby's/Evo's run their engines exceptionally hot and then insert the MOT magic wand up the exhaust - hey presto a pass without a cat.

Getting the car really hot if it's got no CAT should make absolutely sod all difference. Getting the manifold and midpipes hot does nothing to aid combustion (and it only alters backpressure slightly through convection which is irrelevant on an FI engine) so once your engine is up to temp it should be the same after a gentle drive as a hard one. The reason for getting the CAT hot is that the platinum inside it will only react with the CO2 past a certain temperature.

On an engine with no CAT you should see minimal difference between it being warm and really hot. However if your lambda sensor is on the way out then it may make a difference as they have to be mega hot in order to function correctly as well, which is why modern ones have heaters in them!

Anyway back on topic, I hope it gets through!

Any news Moley? Hope you're having a bit more luck today.

Have you changed anything since last years MOT and if so could you possibly put it back to that for the time being?
