Thought I'd start a thread on the new kit I just bought as they include the "anti-glare" bulbs I mentioned in the other thread which may be of interest to people going forwards.

Anyway, was planning to fit the kit today, but was busy in the morning, and then it started raining so it will have to wait. In the meantime, here are some pics of the kit itself (surprisingly well packaged too!)

Box

Kit

Anti-glare bulbs (as you can probably see, the difference between these and a normal bulb is that the bottom of the bulb is obscured)

New sidelight bulbs

Will hopefully get it all fitted soon, and then report back on how effective the anti-glare bulbs are at eliminating light scatter Smile

I'll try not to make you all wait too long - the anti-glare is the thing I'm most interested about too. With the old ones the upward light scatter was quite obvious, I'm hoping these will have a cleaner cut-off.

Marsdendean I scrapped the sidelight bulbs, as i never use sidelights, and couldnt see them with my HID's.
I actually paid extra for those sidelights so hope I don't need to scrap them! :tongue_smilie:

Yep they said the 35W are 300% brighter than halogens, and 55W are 400% brighter so that's a 33% improvement on the old HIDs? Given that my old ones were 8300K and these are 5000K the light output should be considerably higher than my old ones - in theory anyway!

The LED sidelights are good IMHO for making the colour of them match HIDs more closely, otherwise the OEM sidelights look very yellow in comparison. But I agree they're pretty useless in terms of actually lighting up the reflector of the headlamp, I think you need an LED with more all-around light to be able to attempt that.

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Ok it took a while but they're finally in! Apologies for the awful pics, but it was too cold and drizzly to faff around with the camera settings! And also shows that an awesome camera can't make up for "not having a clue"

Instead of sticking them down, thought I'd mount the ballasts with some metal brackets I got from B&Q:

New sidelights (they're not as blue as they've come out in the pic)

Halogen vs. 5000K HID

Halogens

Halogen left, HID right

HIDs in both lights

The pics aren't great, but I think the last pic does show quite clearly how good the "cut-off" is - there's still a tiny bit of upward scatter, but the difference between these and my old HIDs is incredible.

In terms of brightness I have to say that the 55W doesn't seem that much brighter than the 35W, but will report back once I get the car out on to the road and really test them.
