I know the engine always sounds a bit rough when it's cold, especially when the weather gets colder, but mine is sounding really rough when cold ever since the temperatures dropped a bit. It's as sweet as anything when warmed up though - is it the K&N filter that's made the change?

I think with any turbo-charged car, times like this are great- with the chill in the air my BMW feels like its got an extra 40 horses. lol

Today, even in a straight line in even very slightly damp conditions if I floored it, it was wheel spinning.......... Big Grin Big Grin

Cheers for all the replies, guess it's nothing to worry about then, it's more just a sound thing as otherwise the engine does feel as it normally does when it's cold (which is a little sluggish until warm)

@Anees: I do a lot more mileage now and those BMW diesels are really tempting - the fuel economy compared to the performance is astonishing! Must not turn to the dark side though!

It's not the BMW that's the problem though, it's the devil juice that powers it Confusedad:

But yeah on paper the 335d is amazing, sub 6s to 60, but 40mpg :w00t:

I can't think of a positive of diesels at all - although it's been a while since I've driven one. Only the modern day BMW diesels look to be something I could put up with though, all the others still sound awful, and the power delivery is too lumpy, it's all there and then it's all gone far too soon..........it is actually interesting how BMW have made it all more manageable.

But yes, big petrol engine is the way to go! I think if I did ever think about a diesel I'd have to give the GS450h a go too, just that a 3 series convertible is so much more desirable than a big executive saloon........

I know we have gone slightly off topic here but:

I actually had my BMW on ebay last week to sell it because I wanted to sell it and get something else (I'd had it almost four years) but even though the car SOLD and I actually got a decent ish price for it, I just couldn't sell it. I would love an 335d but its in Auto only (not really my thing) and would cost me probably another £10 - 12K+ on top of what I would sell my 330D for, which is actually quicker with its current mods then a standard 335d (obviously remapped 335d would be different story) so can not really justify it.

This week I have been loving it. Been an absolute monster to drive and so glad I kept it. Need to sort a few bits out on it, such as a freer flowing EGR valve that I have been waiting for and duct my FMIC properly.

Marsdendean I know its a non comparison, but sometimes i get into my lex and i thinks its very good. of course on paper its slow, but i don't think it is that slow. When people try it on, it does me ok, and corners very good.

My dad had a BMW320D Auto as a curtsy car and that was horrendous. If you put your foot down it would take approx 2 seconds to drop down and produce the power, unlike my IS which drops down almost instantly. Of course i would like more power, but for 21 i think its quite good!

Fair play mate - the Is200 is great car and I remember when I first got mine I thought it was "quick" (coming from my 1.5L Mazda 323 :thumbup1Smile.

I only really realised how "slow" (in comparative terms) the IS was was after I got the BMW. Whenever I got into the IS200 it felt like it was broken and so gutless but the IS I do think handles better from factory because its lighter.
