I went and bought a new spark plug socket for my replacement plugs (IK20's) and was told that i should be using a touch of copper grease on the threads to improve the seal and to stop them from seizing.
I've only fitted a couple of sets before and I've not used it in the past, is it a good idea to do this ?
I was going to torque the plugs at 17.5 Nm after reading Steviewevie's walk through, will i need to adjust this setting if i use the grease?

08-12-2016, 11:48 AM #4I wouldn't have thought you'd been able to torque them properly if you put grease on. Should be no chance of seizing if you torque them, if they seize they've probably been put in too tight.

I was planning on replacing the coolant with OEM but I've had no joy with the Lexus or Toyota dealerships. Lexus wont supply a part number and Toyota won't supply with out it:confused1:. Anyone know which Long Life goes in a IS200?
I've spotted some on ebay but after checking the reservoir I can't make my mind up whether its pink or red.

That sounds ridiculous. There are two types of long life, pink and red, one is long life and one is super long life (not necessarily that way round). Earlier IS200s had the former, and later ones had the latter. I don't know when the changeover was.
It's ludicrous they say they can't help. They can look up the part number on their service sheets, I'm sure I can find it with a quick ludicrous. My Toyota parts department bends over backwards to help with things like that.

all the 200's i've worked on have had pink coolant in them mate.
(i have a 1999 sport coolant used..pink)

if you are replacing the coolant it wont matter what colour you get.

My Toyota dealer told me to use red for mine. But as you say Ormi, it probably doesn't actually matter if you mix them. Just don't use the Toyota green coolant, that's different.

08-12-2016, 12:17 PM #10I'm sure that the earlier cars used red coolant because the pink stuff hadn't come out yet at that time. Then later on when pink came out, they started using that.
My Toyota dealer told me to use red for mine. But as you say Ormi, it probably doesn't actually matter if you mix them. Just don't use the Toyota green coolant, that's different.
