The snow was 2 to 3 feed deep in places so the shovel supplied with the car came in handy!! we stopped on a motorway as the road was blocked and in only 45 mins the snow was falling so hard and blowing around so much the snow was up to the windows, not touching the car it left a gap- must be the way the wind was blowing................. Great fun but so dangerous looking back.
Out there every shop was open, taxis were operating as normal. The only thing to watch out for was the marble shop steps - slipperier than skating rinks :ohmy:
Pretty cold -5 in the day and -16 at night, still trying to warm up!!

10-12-2016, 09:40 AM #1Well I have just got back from 4 days in the mountains of Bulgaria, I hired a BMW 5 series, with winter tyres fitted as it is winter!! the car drove perfectly, never slipped, skidded etc nothing that you associate with RWD cars in snow, I am 100% converted to winter tyres now, you have to try them to see, well worth the investment if you want to avoid a crash. I even had to reverse up a steep hill to give way to a truck - no slipping unbelievable.

10-12-2016, 10:25 AM #5When the temp drops below 7C they are required in Bulgaria, even on dry non-snow covered roads winter tires are required, they are not just for snow the softer rubber compound grips better than summer tyres in cold temps. Common misconception is snow/winter tyres are for snow only - they are for cold weather.

can even send them over to you guys..... and you can get them up to 18"

10-12-2016, 10:26 AM #6but you can get ones like we have in the south of sweden that are 50% winter and 50% summer so you can use them all year round, there a bit harder than normal winter tires but they dont wear down as fast when the roads are hot.

Yeah but for how long of the year does the temperature stay below 7 degrees for the times when you're driving in it ?
I'm suggesting that they'd be poor economy in Southern Britain - they'd be very useful on a very small number of ocassions, if ever, in a year - and for the rest of the time you probably wouldn't notice much difference, and you'd start wearing them out a lot quicker than you should be at the times when the temperature was a bit milder.

10-12-2016, 10:38 AM #10the ones in the picture are summer tires but they have the extra tread cuts to help them grip in the snow. i can find out all the info for you guys... but maybe the only people who would benifit would be those who live in the north
