This was suggested by the teams recently, and has just been ratified. The top 10 starters in the race will have to begin the race on the tyres they set their fastest times on.

Also, the amount of points difference between first and second place has been increased, the points are now 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1.

****, I was hoping that wouldn't come in, I want to see the absolute quickest times in quali, and then the quickest people at the front of the grid - not a big jumble because some had to use hard tyres in quali to not compromise their race........

I know what you mean, but the trouble is that with no refuelling for 2010, would it lead to a boring race ?

What we *really* need is decent overtaking (on the track !) though. The effort by the teams to come up with aerodynamic stuff for 2009 to boost overtaking seems to have failed dismally ...

Interestingly, I see that "BMW Sauber" are still going to be called that (for reasons of prize money etc), even though they have no connection with BMW any more and are running a Ferrari engine !

You're right about the overtaking, they need to go more aggressive with limiting the aero rules. I don't know why they've reduced the tyre grip - imho that's the wrong way, they should be increasing tyre grip and reducing aero.

I did see that and thought people were just calling it that - I guess it must be that it was too late to change the name by the time they got it all together as Mercedes were able to change their team name and not be affected by it?

Agree totally, I don't understand why they're going back to reducing the tyre grip either, guess it's a quick fix to slow them down a bit ?

I think it might be good if they could make an aerodynamic device which meant it was actually *beneficial* to be just behind another car, e.g. something that creates a proper slipstream.

It does seem a bit odd, a bit of info (but not much !) on that >>here<<

Yep not sure if it's possible but someone needs to look at these cars in a wind tunnel and figure out what exactly about the design of a modern F1 car makes the air behind the car turbulent preventing another car from being able to follow closely.

It used to be possible not that long ago, so all they have to do is undo whatever was done to create this - easy to say I know!

Yea it is possible, but not in the interest of the front runners.........

2tongues Yea it is possible, but not in the interest of the front runners.........

Surely it is though isn't it? So many times you see a McLaren behind a Ferrari (or vice versa) where the car behind is faster (it happened to Kimi all through 2008) but can't get close enough because of the turbulent air.

I understand what you're saying but I think it can be argued both ways.

On a separate note it's interesting that Ferrari "appears" to be the quickest car at the mo, but I'm looking forward to seeing Lewis and Schumacher hunt them down

No you generally want to start a race on brand spanking new tyres if you can - it gives you a bit of extra purchase off the line as well as just generally being better for the first few laps.

It's annoying Ferrari are so far ahead of the others, but there's plenty of time for everyone to catch up and we also have no idea about the fuel loads they're all currently running on.

The more surprising thing is that on all three days Sauber and even more interestingly de la rosa have been second fastest - I hope that's genuine speed as it would be great for them to have some good results next year after everything that happened with BMW.
