Who know about Motorbikes?
as title, im looking at bikes to get to and from my new job. its not that far (about 10 miles) but there is always heavy traffic on a few stretches of road.
this combined with the fuel cost of the IS, i think it would actually pay for itself!
Ive been looking at the Yamaha YZF 125cc models as i can ride this after just doing the CBT.
anybody able to offer any advice?
hmm, all the reviews and shops recommend as a commuter/learner model and seems to have won many awards in this catergory..
whilst it is for commuting i also want it to look the part before moving upto one of the bigger models once i have some exp and have done the test..
it also seems to be quite good on ins(gp6) and quoted around £200..
i looked at the hondas and dont like the look of em..
yeah, cant be turning up on a scooter! lol
im just trying to weigh up if its worth buying new or second hand.. seems to be a few 1 yr old models floating at £3K as opposed to £4K new..
with the new reg coming soon, maybe the price of 2nd hand models willdrop.. just have no idea about the bike market at all!
well its a 20 mile round trip..
it can take 1 1/2 hours in rush hour or 20 mins any other time...
so 2 hours of time saved and 100mpg vs 25mpg.. so a months fuel in the lexus just for work is approx £100 vs approx £20 on a bike. add in the cost of buying, taxing, insuring and servicing comes in at £105 month (all on 3 yr 0%apr) so lets say £130 all in, inc fuel..
then the saving on insurance, n wear n tear on the lexus means it pretty much works out even and i have a new bike..
if i sold it in one year, based on what i currently see it would go for circa 3K.. so again break even
i i went 2nd hand,2 yr old it would be about £2 / 2.5k..
if im missing something or if my logic/maths is flawed then please do point it out as it seems a little too easy!
priced up all the kit at £250 in the sales so thats no big cost really..
ins on the car goes down due to rmving business and commuting use, halfing my mileage and by adding the use of another vehicle..
i think your right, i do end up spending slightly more and may lose some money on the resale but saving at least 1 hour per day is something money cannot buy..
imight look into some second hand options but other than Autotrader where can i look?
Gord £250 for the kit, i paid near 1k for mine hock: you have to have good quality gear mate, don't get cheap plastic lid, my lid cost £299 my leather jacket was near the £400 mark

redz try looking in the MCN (motor cycle news) and on line @ http://www.mcn.co.uk. As for kit buy what you can afford but dont buy cheap. I wear 2pce leathers (got them for £200 as i know the sales staff) Aria Lid and ride a Gixer 1300 (Busa). :thumbup1:
