Could you try a bit of haggling on this? LINK
Went and test drove the BEAMS MR2 and a 54 plate S2000 this weekend just gone.
The BEAMS car was simply stunning, it's difficult to put in to words how good the condition of the car was. It literally looked, felt and drove like it had just rolled out of the factory. The auto gearbox wasn't at all irritating in the hour I spent driving it and the induction roar was amazing for a totally standard car.
All in all a beautiful car, but unfortunately someone has beaten me to it and I wouldn't be able to raise the funds and shift my car in time.
The S2000 was a complete let down but I think it might've been a bad one. I didn't intend to buy the one I test drove as it was out of my price range but I thought I'd get a better idea for how the car is meant to be by driving a newer one. The gearbox was very notchy into 2nd and the interior was so cramped - smaller than an MX5 and WAY smaller than the MR2. I struggled to fit comfortably into the driver's seat and I'm no giant. The interior was all rattly and squeaky and there was some severe rattling from the rear window area at low revs. However VTEC is fun and revving to 9krpms sounds amazing. Also noticed that the seal was gone on one of the rear light clusters already, and this was a 'Honda Approved' car with a dealer FSH... not impressed!
I drove a lot of other cars at the weekend too, but not with a view to buying any of them and the overwhelming fact is that none of them felt as good as my car, with the exception of the newer MR2. I am gutted that I can't buy it
Interesting you don't like the S2000, but if the interior is so small you wouldn't find me even entertaining the thought as the MR2 is about as small as I would go.
I know what you mean about the MR2 though they are the best of their group and even older ones hold together very well, a testament to the benefit of designing a sports car from the wheels up and not robbing a chassis from here, a bit from there etc. love MR2's:tongue_smilie:
I have to say the MR2 is a cracking car and i loved owning one, Shame you can't get things sorted on the one you saw.
I never minded the s2000 sounds like it was a well worn car you visited maybe worth viewing a few others before closing the door on this model though.
Clarkson likes the S2000 - a reason not to have one:Chair:
