Can anyone confirm that cat6 is fully backwards compatible with cat5, and the only real reason to go for cat5 nowadays is on the basis of cost?

Or is it more complicated than that?

networking cable Ian, iirc there's is very little advantage of using cat6 over cat5e atm unless your running cables for hundreds of metres?

No, only around the house so max maybe 30m, but for now will only be about 10m.

Also been reading about how cat6 is much more sensitive to the quality of installation so think I'll stick to cat5e.

Cat 6 isnt just the cable it is the installation so that might be where you heard about it being installation sensitive. Obviously you need to use cat6 cable for a cat6 install.

The flat cat6 stuff is very nice and much easier to use however as you can run it under doors and such. If thats not useful to you stick with 5e.

Was Supercharged Racing Green IS200 Sport. Now APR Stage 1 Seat Leon Cupra (220 Bhp).

Ahh that would explain it a bit further then - yes a lot of what I read did just go over my head!

Yeah not too fussed about it being flat as I'm planning to install during mild renovation so burying cables isn't a big issue, if it won't make much difference I'll stick to 5e then, thanks

Stick to cat 5e, and as long as its installed correctly it will be fine. I will try dig out the technician's installation notes I have, if I find them I will send them to you.

The one and only supercharged IS300!
