Cat5 vs Cat6
Cat5 vs Cat6
Can anyone confirm that cat6 is fully backwards compatible with cat5, and the only real reason to go for cat5 nowadays is on the basis of cost?
Or is it more complicated than that?

networking cable Ian, iirc there's is very little advantage of using cat6 over cat5e atm unless your running cables for hundreds of metres?

Cat 6 isnt just the cable it is the installation so that might be where you heard about it being installation sensitive. Obviously you need to use cat6 cable for a cat6 install.
The flat cat6 stuff is very nice and much easier to use however as you can run it under doors and such. If thats not useful to you stick with 5e.

B15RUP Stick to cat 5e, and as long as its installed correctly it will be fine. I will try dig out the technician's installation notes I have, if I find them I will send them to you.

Just been looking for network cable and seen there are different types, is UTP the one I want?
