Ok, as promised pics of the install! Pics taken on my phone, so are not great quality!!

First thing I done was the facia mod as per Wozs write up :thumbup1: ……he told me that this will take time he wasn’t joking, to give those that are thinking of doing this an idea of how long and as everyone loves pics I took a few snaps along the way!

Pocket holder and frame, glued, filled and sanded. I had to refill and sand few times
[Image: 755a6361.jpg]

First coat of primer, this helps to show the imperfections in the filling/sanding
[Image: c30f1149.jpg]

Sanded and filled again
[Image: 3671a8fc.jpg]

Another coat of primer
[Image: df34711f.jpg]

Sanded again
[Image: dfe8c5f0.jpg]

Primer again
[Image: df34711f.jpg]

Pocket modified to have ipod connector inside it
[Image: 754e9eae.jpg]

Top Coat
[Image: 73729123.jpg]

sanded and re applied!

and again
[Image: 200c726b.jpg]

Left over night and then speed cured in the corolla windscreen in the sun:biggrin:

So you get the idea that this takes a while!! I was about 95% happy with the finish, was just a slight imperfection with the filled join.

Time to move on with the actual install, again the walk through covers this but we all love pics!! Woz thanks for the info you gave me!

So I started with this, stock HU with the Grom adapter (ipod cable sticking out under the trc button)

Popped out the dash tray, my pops straight out with a little lift with a screwdriver here, IIRC there are 3 different ways this could be held down.

Pull out the heated seat panel and mark the cable, or do what I done and take a picture…told you im lazy!!

For info - If anyone is adding a grom unit, mine sat nice and snug here
[Image: 16d3e145.jpg]

HU removed

Onto the amp bypass, a big thanks to Bandit for his step by step guide, without it this would not have been so easy :thumbup1:

Released the bracket from the cable ties with a push with a screw driver
[Image: bcca4043.jpg]

Bypass cable connected and amp refitted :thumbup1:Confusedmoke:

Next job was to run the cable though to the HU brain in the boot.

Power lead and AI net cable going into the boot behind the back rest of the rear seat.

Cables run along the under the case of rear seat
[Image: a5e74069.jpg]

Ai net, power ant, illum, ground and power leads for rear head rest monitors run to centre console
[Image: 0534e2c2.jpg]

HU Display cable and Aerial extension cables run along the other side of car
[Image: eb866b57.jpg]

HU Brain all connected up
[Image: 5b208980.jpg]

I then clipped al the carpet back together, put the rear reats back in, glove box etc and at this point I was freezing cold and it was beginning to get dark, putting the dash back together and carefully putting the HU into the facia …..after all the faffing about trying to get the cables out the way from behind the unit…..on the home run and about to put the bolt on top of the ac panel …..the mrs pokes her head out the window upstairs….how long you gonna be…..turned around and klunk…rattle, I dropped the :cursing:bolt….coudnt see it so had to remove it again…ended up chipping the facia …….finally found it, it had rolled dow the side of the carpet :Shooting::Chair:……so totally :cursing: off by now…..not being careful, didn’t make sure everything was clear from behind the HU, pushed it all back with a bit of force and the filler on the facia cracked…………..Confusedhock: :Sulk:.....bit gutted, but ive just ordered another one so can take my time sanding and painting this one and will refit once done!

Other than that im happy with the install, haven’t really used the car since, headrests screens should be here in a few days, will take a few more pics when they are fitted!heres a pic of the unit, will get some more soon!

good write up mate!

ive found a layer of specific plastic primer over the normal primer helps the paint process no end so you cant see any difference between filler and plastic

I only used plastic primer mate, it was more a case of over applied filler to the side of the join which i didnt sand down very well!:blushing:Big Grin

DJ Wozza Great write up mate. I know how you mean about the facia, as when we were putting mine back I was kinda waiting for the crack due to huge rca leads.
Shame what happened buddy, but you can complete the facia at your own pace next time. If you need a hand when putting it in again, (or indeed when the
head rests arrive) then let me know bud Smile

Cheers fella, more disappointed at myself then pissed off at the fact it cracked, as i knew it needed to be installed with care, but was vex after having to open it all up again and look for the nut i droppedBig Grin, twas a cold day on sunday!!

As you say, i can take my time as theres no rush this time in getting it painted this timeConfusedmoke:Confusedmoke:....if i can get it painted before the Ace meet might install it there!!

DJ Wozza Was deffo cold on sunday mate as mine was fitted on the same day.
Shaz can you not unclip the boot lining and hide the Head Unit Brain away ?
(loadsa room behind the wheel arch covers and side panels)

Here is a video of my new Alpine CDA-9884R Head Unit and other Alpine toy fitted at weekend (big thanks to Rabster).
