OK so i should get this thread off to a start i guess.

As you may know i picked up the car on monday, although i am pleased with it, there is already a growing list of things to be done to it. Firstly the car has sticky front brakes, so these will be replaced as soon as the new ones turn up. This will also involve a caliper rebuild, so that should be fun.

I have also found out that the car doesn't like to idle when cold, so it needs the revs holding up for about 30 seconds until it will idle by itself. I will be looking into this and with a bit of technical help here and there we should have her running nicely soon enough.

The car had a new cambelt fitted just 6000 miles ago, so i am happy with that, but there is a good service due, along with new altenator belts as they squeal when cold.

The next thing on the list will be to sort out some sounds in it. The car came with a double din tv/dvd thing fitted to it, but it doesnt seem to power up. I recently bought an alpine ida-x200 head unit, so i think this will be fitted once i buy and single din converter panel. The head unit doesn't have cd capabilities, but i bought it for its ipod control, although i do still like to have cd's, so i will be buying a cd changer to fit in at some point.
The aerial fitted to the car is broken as some yob has snapped it off. There was a replacement in the boot, but it is not genuine, so i will be searching for an original aerial to fit to it.
Once i have that up and running we will look into speakers. From the looks of things there may already be aftermarket amps and speakers fitted. When me and rabster were trying to work out why there was no power to the current head unit we found that the standard iso loom for the speakers wasnt connected, and he thinks there are rca leads in there. When i get home from work tonight i will be pulling the dash apart and taking a look at what we have to work with.

I am going to leave it at that for now, otherwise i will just have a thread full of writing. I will get plenty of pictures as i go, as i want this well documented. For now we just have a few pics stolen from the other thread

Thats a fair few bits to sort but the car does look good from the photos, bodywork & panels all look in good nick. Kato wheels I see, had them on my old IS, that chrome rim looks good but need to keep it clean. If you need to do the brake calipers I used I guy online that recons old ones, you send him your knackered ones & he sends you shiny re-con ones (other way around actually he sends then you do) might save you some dosh.

Good car to mod though sure you will enjoy that.

Cheers

Hurricane The aerial fitted to the car is broken as some yob has snapped it off. There was a replacement in the boot, but it is not genuine, so i will be searching for an original aerial to fit to it.

You'll be a while finding a 2nd hand aerial that still works properly Smile I imagine the reason the original one got snapped off was because it jammed in the up position... There's a PDF guide somewhere for getting aftermarket aerials to fit and work properly which is based on the ones from Maplin. It's a for a MK1 but the process is identical.

Other than that good luck and let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

Right, i guess ill be trying to fit the one in the boot then! Its been used before so the wiring is a bit tatty, but im sure i will find a way.

I quite enjoy getting my hands dirty, so im happy to do the caliper refurb myself. If they then turn out to be **** still i may look into a professional refurb, but i will always try to do things myself first

The car is fitted with a quickshift kit. The gear shift is so short its crazy. Its a bit stiff though so i will pull it out and regrease it. Although it could be me not being used to cable shift, all the cars i have driven before have been direct linkages.

As the shift is so short (i will put a pic up tonight to show it) and as it has a knackered gear knob, a replacement will be getting ordered. Im not sure what i want yet though

The callipers are EASY do DIY re-furb, takes a couple of hours max, unless you know what your doing then less than an hour - or so I am told.

I have found GTS Chris very good for MR2 parts, even unusual things he can get fairy quickly. http://www.gtschris.com/store/comersus_index.asp

I have done caliper refurbs before so not a problem hopefully. As long as the pistons aren't too seized in the body. If not they will be soaked in whatever nasty proiducts i can find in the garage. They are currently painted in a nasty blue colour, but they will be going gold, to match the zinc plated discs.

Plus i have always loved gold and green together

You've probably got an eBay special quickshift kit on there... quickshit is what they should be called!

I dunno who the hell told you that Phil but they were lying!
