Remember though you have more than just the 430 engine there is the 300 i also think some country got a 4.0 model these are all on the second Generation gs
Also the 430 share the same engine as the LS & SC range so its a trusted engine.
Normal driving in my sc430 is 23mpg when i had the IS as well that was around 26 doing the same journey.
Oli was right the car did have a recall on the streering rack, but Terry ended up having his re installed as Terry said the car was far worse after they had put in the new rack.
Only things to look for as with most Lexus are the wheels rust bubbles, wheels sensors and o2 sensors, but this item are common on the range of Lexus cars.
Up dated sat Nav disc would be helpful.
For such a big car the Gs430 is a very nice car with fairly good fuel figures.

Yep there's only 3 versions of the GS - mk1 to 1999 (I think), mk2 to 2005 and mk3 is the present version.
The indicators on the mirrors and the slightly altered bumpers is just a facelift of the mk3.
