I have managed to pick up the perfect dog carying vehicle. It's a 2001 Honda Civic 1.4 auto. Before myself it was owned from new by an old lady who in it's ten years existance, has put only 22,000 miles on it. Now, the A/C has never been used although the car does have a full Honda main dealer service history. I'm going to book it in for an A/C service with my local garage but as it's not blowing very cold at all and having been hardly used, I was just wondering what are the chances of the A/C actually working without needing most of the parts replaced?

11-03-2017, 10:54 PM #2Hopefully it just needs an a/c re-gas. The worst case I suppose is the seals have perished because the a/c hasn't been used, given the a/c gas includes the lubricant for those seals etc. Hopefully it's the former and not the latter !

11-03-2017, 11:08 PM #4Yeah the automatic machines they have these days seem pretty good, it automatically checks how much gas is in there (not much in your case, probably), checks for leaks, re-tops it up with the necessary gas and lubricant etc. Fingers crossed !

They need charging every two - three years to keep them working as they should.
Sounds a nice car for a dog carrier, but remember that puppy will get mighty big:lol:
Jim I am too hoping it just needs a re-gas , but it could end up costing a bit more than that to get it running you should always run these systems at least once a week for a good ten minutes.

Other than that you can get a regas kit in a can from halfords, it's a white can and it comes with a small rubber tube with a pressure gauge on it. This is the route to go down if you have a pressure failure as it contains the aircon equivalent of radweld.
Obviously I wouldn't recommend kwik fit for anything else!
Believe it or not kwik fit is the place to take it. They have an automated machine for regassing, colder air or your money back and it was only £20 last time I had it done. They completely recover any old gas and oil (a legal requirement), pressure test the system and then if the pressure is OK regas and relubricate.

I just have to keep an eye on it in terms of it not blowing as cold, but all seems well for now.
Just forgot, they also put die in the system and couldn't find any leaks so were rockin and rollin.
