2tongues I have a Lenovo laptop, it is ultra reliable, been dropped more than a few times and no damage apart from a new screen last year (£60), its only turned off a couple of times a month (if that) and is still 100% reliable 3 years on.

Can't praise Lenovo enough.
Yeah mine's been through similar abuse! Not been physically dropped, but it does get chucked around a bit, plus it's the machine that gets taken abroad so gets bashed around in suitcases and when it's in the house it's on 24/7 - have to agree the build on those machines is fantastic!

Hurricane Thats not a bad price. Is that including monitor, or just pc, keyborad, mouse? I took a look at that card. As long as it has the dual sockets it will support dual monitors. If you only have VGA screens it will come with an adaptor to suit.

The core i7 are excellent processors, coupled with 6gb ram it should be very smooth

Cool, thanks mate. Yep that's a desktop only price, no screen - both sources I want to hook up to are DVI (one monitor and a plasma TV) so it should be fine as is then.

Yeah it should be pretty smooth, it won't be used for anything particularly intensive so don't technically need all that power, but the way I see it this way in 5 years time this will still be a pretty quick machine

He doesnt want one. And that system he has found is miles better than a mac and tbh probably cheaper? Dont understand why people go for Macs. Theyre more expensive with less equipment. Nvidia + Windows all the way :p

Don't want a mac, nothing to do with cost, just don't want one. But worth considering cost as a 27" imac with an i7 will cost £2,000 - what I'm looking at with a 32" 1080p LCD will cost under £1,200.

A mac's got to be pretty d**m good to be worth almost double the cost!

And what are PCs?

I'm with Hurricane on this one, the IT managers at work run about with macBooks and the like - but the guys who actually do the work run either HP, Dell or Sony laptops.

The spec you've linked to sounds pretty good, Parthiban - and the price looks about right to me FWIW

Cheers for all that, I think I'll just go with that Dell then.

Just one other question, who should I go with for the screen? Thinking about 24" should do for this PC, should I just get it from Dell as well, who makes their panels? Are they good quality?

Or any other recommendations?

And just to put the whole Mac thing to bed - it depends what you want. To me macs are lifestyle machines, they don't offer everything, but what they do they do very stylishly. If that's what you want and don't mind paying through the nose, they're great. If you just want a reliable workhorse that gives you plenty more options, PCs the way to go every time.

Samsung do great monitors. Picked up a 22" Samsung LCD for around £210 from Overclockers.. however there are better deals out there. If your going for 24" + your better getting quality rather than "a dell one will do" but it depends how far your budged will stretch.
