One other thing though, won't going from 60" to 32" be a massive change? Not sure I could do it! :tongue_smilie:

Other option is to save up for a few more months and get a 50" plasma - you can get decent ones for £500 and it'll have a far better picture than the LCDs we're talking about. Plus the smooth image of a plasma is far more suited to gaming............

I dunno, but I would have thought the massive improvement from going from a horrible blurry (sorry) rear projection TV to a sharp one would be worth trading off vs the smaller size !

parthiban The resolution - HD ready will be 720p (1280x720, although sometimes 1366x768), full HD will be 1080p (1920x1080).

If you're using with an xbox and you want clarity 1080p will be great but at 32" it isn't that important.

what about the HD Ready teles advertised at 1080p?? this is whats confusing me Blush

surely a HD Ready TV should be advertsied at 720p

and HD TV should be advertised at 1080p

Oh it doesnt matter on the screen szie clarity will make all the difference, i play Call of duty alot (sad i know) and generally tend to snipe, i noticed on my last tv 26" rear projection distance images were fuzzy and hard to see, my new 60"rear projection has the same issue but the size makes up for it (i can determine targets) so i fugre a 32" HD clarity TV will be best of both, useable size and good gaming :tongue_smilie:

Really ? ok, but I've never seen a rear projection TV whose picture wasn't absolutely awful compared to an old CRT TV, the only benefit seemed to be the larger (but dimmer) screen.

The HD thing is confusing, as you say. The HD spec covers both 720 and 1080 resolution. The early HD TVs could only do the 720, except for a few that were way too expensive for most people. So they started off advertisting the 720 ones as "HD-ready".

Once 1080 started to become affordable, they needed some sort of label to attach to this, for marketing purposes, and "Full HD" is what they picked (because on a 720 TV you can't get the "full" HD experience).

I don't know a lot about the Xbox and HD, but if it can do 1080, then you want to get a Full HD screen. If it can only do 720, then you could save some money by getting a regular HD-ready one.

Ahh fair enough, 32" will probably be ok for you then. Also depending on the distance you sit from the screen, 1080p may not actually make that much of a difference so you could save a bit and stick with a lower res screen.

There's a bit of confusion with HD ready - they used to be described as "HD ready" and "HD ready 1080p" but this was dropped quite early on to take on "HD ready" for 720p screens and "Full HD" for 1080p screens.

Either way it's all just wording, you'll struggle to find a 32" TV that isn't HD ready so there isn't anything to worry about, just whether it's 720 or 1080p which it will say on the front.

That is a good price as well, PQ is a very personal thing but for me plasma wins when it comes to normal TV and gaming. The two techs have been getting closer over recent years, but plasmas give you a much softer, more lifelike picture with much smoother movement.

LCD gives you a more vibrant and highly defined image, but this also leads to a little harshness and I find the slight jerkiness (except on really expensive LCDs) a bit annoying when it comes to gaming.

Good idea to check both out in a store before deciding which to buy - some won't even mind you plugging in an xbox to see how it looks.
