parthiban Only thing to remember is that plasma still suffers from screen burn issues - it's much better than it was before (and even then I've never had a problem) but if you watch a channel with a logo on it all the time it will eventually burn into the screen.

If you don't then it's not really a concern.

And as Lexusboy says since Pioneer's pullout from plasmas, Panasonic now make the best screens (they bought up Pioneers business). However worth looking for a second hand Pioneer - if you find a good one they can be a bargain and they really do have stunning PQ

Yeap they certainly do have burn issues and you need to run them in, many people i told about this bought an lcd due to this, its not too bad you just need to use it darker settings for the first few hundred hours of use......ive had some screen retention issues, however a night on the snow channel has sorted that!

Pioneer are (were) the best and is what i went for with the panny a close second choice. Now the Panny are no doubt the best......they actually use pioneer panals, probably why the pannys have 'PDP' in the model number (pioneer used to call them this).

thanks for the tips guys, much appreciated

ive been scouring ebay for a sky+ box, (****** installers only gave me a standard box Sad ) and ive noticed alot of retailers on there selling TV's with the 5 year warranty.

normally i wouldnt trust the bay of e for such things but it doesnt seem a bad punt? maybe only saving £50 - £100

I hadn't noticed the PDP in the model numbers but I did see that there are now two distinct price ranges, and I think the more expensive ones are the ones that are effectively Pioneer screens after they bought them out.

And Wozza does make a good point, as far as I'm concerned this only applies to Sony, but the top end Sony (and Samsung) LCDs are the only ones that get quite close to plasma, but then we're talking big money.

DJ Wozza it damages the boards permanently from what I have read. I don't know too many details TBh but I do know it's a deffo no-no.

As for both the ebay tv's, I wouldn't buy a damaged Samsung, and I'm afraid Toshiba are not the tv giants they once were. They haven't had a What Hi-Fi award winning or 5 star rated tv for a couple of years now. Motion smear on a cheap LCD is a nightmare you can't get rid of or ignore.

I would seriously push the budget as high as you can, as a tv is a long term purchase, and what you don't want is the regret everytime you look at it, that you didn't go for something slightly better. I have learnt from ICE & Home Hi-Fi purchases very similar lessons and it always costs more in the long run.

I see your point...didnt realise the samsung was damaged :blushing:

but jsut throwing ideas out there, unfortunately my budget isnt great and saving power is dimishing by the day (apparently the missus wants a holiday now :mellowSmile

My mate has a toshiba regza and it seems to do fine, and he spent months looking at reviews, ratings, testing tele's in shops etc, ive watched it myself and must admit normal channels do sometimes suffer motion blur, but HD is top notch and faultless

I know its a big gamble, but anything will be better than my rear projection one.

Pics of my TV - sorry about the quality, not really sure how to take a photo of a TV so couldn't get rid of those lines. I assume it's the refresh rate and shutter speed conflicting with each other but there are no lines on screen.
