Lexus LS460
Lexus LS460
Good morning,
Here we have Graham's Lexus LS 460 with a very unique colour that was booked in over the w'end for a stage 1 paint correction. The owner had only just started ownership of this car and wanted a good base to maintain the car going forward. These were the pics upon delivery..
The vehicle arrived promptly at 7pm Friday evening. I started with hoovering the interior and boot, then treated the dash and all interior trim to some Poorboys
Up early the next day, the wheels were cleaned using Bilberry and aggitated with brushes. The vehicle then had a pre-wash snow foam and rinsed off after 5 mins
The vehicle was then washed by hand with Meguiars Shampoo Plus and the 2 bucket method. Clayed with Gloss It mild clay, washed again and brought inside to be dried. Lower parts of the vehicle showed heavier signs of contamination
It was extremely hard to show paint defects due to the colour, it was a metallic pearl that flipped to a blue/purple finish in the light. Hopefully you will get the idea
I used the Makita rotary and as the car was booked for a stage 1, therefore the plan was not to remove all defects but as many as possible whilst still retaining some good gloss and clarity in the paint, i went for Menzerna 106FA on a 3M polishign pad.
The bonnet was taped up
This process was continued around the vehicle
Door complete
Moving round to the drivers side
Reflection shots
Moving onto the front wings, due to their shpae i switched to a Sonus polishing spot pad
The vehicle was taken outside and dusted down
2 application of Endurance tyre gel and 1 application of wheel selant were then applied
The start of a new day, the vehicle was dusted down using last touch
Dodo Juice lime prime lite was then applied per panel and buffed off
The leather interior was then treated to Gliptone conditioner
Finally 1 application of Victoria Concourse wax was applied and buffed off. Its a real shame the sun wasnt out yesterday to get the full effect of this paintwork, but sadly not. These were the final pictures
And finally, my service book to go with the owners new documents
Thanks for reading, Christian
Stunning job as always mate, and a lovely motor Graham has :thumbup1:
Its a shame the sun wasn't out, I bet it would of looked great with the pearl paint after its detail :thumbup1:
I was gutted to be honest Bandit, typically its a glorious day today! You really need the sun out to fully appreciate its finish.
Certainly was a good purchase by Graham
How do you find the paintwork on the Lexus models mate, is it pretty soft compared to cars like the Bmw's/Audi's? Read in the past that the Bmw paint is pretty hard :thumbup1:
Hopefully Graham will try and get some pics of the LS460 in the sun, before he gets it dirty
Hi Bobby, the reason i tape large sections off is for several reasons. I like to keep my work areas a particular size to enable me to get the best from the chosen products, it enables me to see a clear difference between a machined section and not, i dont want to overlap areas of paint and machine them anymore than they need to be so as to keep paint/clearcoat removal to a minimum, something that is very hard to do if you are guessing where you machined up to in your last area. There is never a problem with areas not being machind under the tape, once a section is done the tape for that area is pulled back and placed a few mm past where the machnes line was so the next section to be polished will contain the area that was taped in the previous section. If that makes sense
