I think the odds are we will be back at the polls sooner rather than later no matter what happens. The Tories and the Lib Dems have different opinions on a lot of key things so it will be interesting to see how long they can work together.

I feel a bit sorry for Brown too, he did make a bit of a mess but he inherited a lot of the problems and probably couldn't have become PM at a worse time.

I agree with you we'll be back soon, probably 2 years I think.

Not the stuff about Brown though, as Wozza said Brown was in charge of all the finances since 1997, and the financial state of this country is pretty much all his fault - he gave the bankers so much power, and he aligned our banking system with the US. That's what annoys and surprises me about how people could still vote for him, but I'm guessing your post is quite telling in that many probably don't know or understand what he was up to over the last decade or so.

Financially we are in huge trouble now - up to our eyeballs in debt, sold off our gold reserves, rapidly rising inflation but an interest rate being kept artificially low, an ageing population, a skilled workforce that's leaving the country in its thousands and an out of control benefit system that's haemorrhaging our cash (and I haven't even had to mention immigration yet)..........

I think its a bit unfair to say that i don't understand the situation because we have a difference of opinion!

I'm not saying Brown did a great job, but I do feel he's been made into a bit of a scapegoat. Nobody can argue with things like the deficit, its a ridiculous amount of money, that's a fact. I'm just not sure that if a different party had been in power things would be all that different.

The financial crisis was GLOBAL, OK Brown didn't help with de-regulating the banks but he can't be made to be the scapegoat for a global meltdown. I am no fan of Brown but the situation we are in now is not good for our country, things can get worse, take a look at the Euro zone for proof of that.

The "condemn" coalition wont last more than 2 years then labour will be back.

May have been a little bit harsh, but was true to the extent that you were saying that Brown inherited the problems - he didn't, he was right there from the beginning and if you can pin the blame on anyone it's right on Brown. He made all the financial decisions right from 1997.

It was global, but you can see how other countries didn't do as badly as we did due to the way they were set up financially. We had too much reliance on the banks, and the US banks for that matter which is why when the US went down hard, we went down just as hard.

I agree that the coalition probably won't last, but labour won't be back that soon - these guys will really have to screw up badly for people to go back after everything that's happened, if anything the next election will bring about a proper Tory majority.
