Visited Sky's website for technical help, and found that they have an offer of free sky+HD, with 10 per month for HD pack for 12 months, free set up (as I choose the self set up)
Looking forward to HD now !, and hope it worth it !

Got up this morning to find my sky+ box, gone wrong, the standby light was blinking, and would not go out of standby, tried everything on the net and gave up

My sky+ box has done this a few times, typically after the warranty ran out! cant remember how i reset it now, but you loose everything on the hard disk......guess you would have tried it anyway......been meaning to upgrade to hd for a while now, perfect time now i suppose with the world cup around the corner:thumbup1:

04-04-2017, 12:42 AM #7The PSU is a VERY VERY cheap part and failsa lot, it is the same on Sky+ and SkyHD. Remove it change all the 15 caps and hey presto 99% of problems solved. Buy good quality 105C caps not the rubbish sold in Maplins.

Marsdendean I'm on virgin, and booked sky to install. I ended up changing, just because of the lack of "Catch up TV", music videos on demand and a few other features,
Yes virgin does not have a lot of HD channels, but IMO, the broadband & TV is miles better than skY1
Thats very true, I loved virgin, with the music on demand, just sky had a good offer back then so I switched, but you right they broadband is one of the best around
jsj24uk I have sky+ and I really don't like it. Most mornings I turn it on and it says No Satalite Signal but if I turn it off and on at the mains it comes back. I used to have Virgin+ and it's loads better in my opinion.
the no signal problem, could be due to the connections at the back, they very flimsy if not right first time round, and the sky engineer did mine didnt do it right, so i have to fix it many times, I would ring them and get them to come out, cause it could also do with the position of the satalite.
2tongues The PSU is a VERY VERY cheap part and failsa lot, it is the same on Sky+ and SkyHD. Remove it change all the 15 caps and hey presto 99% of problems solved. Buy good quality 105C caps not the rubbish sold in Maplins.

yh i was looking at this option, but then came across the sky offer for existing customers, so tought what the heck ill go for it.
i also got them to confirm that currently im on half price for 6 months, cause i threathned to leave them, they confirmed that would stay in place, just that I would pay an extra tenner for the HD channels.

although the sky+ box is alot faster than the virgin at loading etc, i would always go back to virgin if possible,
free HD offerings, cheaper overall, on demand is far greater than sky
loved it, but sky does what it says on the tin, jsut at a premium!
