Want to fit an outdoor tap, will go on the wall behind the kitchen sink so not much pipe will be needed. Want to use plastic pipes to make it easier, just wanted to ask if its possible to tap into the current mains (cooper) with a plastic 'T'...or would it be better to solder a copper pipe (ive been told that compression joints shouldnt be used = problems if it freezes)

Cheers

Dean mate will be the one for this!!

You are better off with copper though, there are some very good fast fit copper fittings available.

The plastic ones should be fine, a lot of new houses have the plastic pipes throughout although I'm no plumbing expert.

Only thing I know with copper is that it's hard to get a decent solder joint if a pipe is wet, so compression fittings are generally used in these instances. If compression doesn't do well in cold, then plastic might be the way to go (but they're compression too aren't they?)

Good point mate, but i think it might be to do with the olive.....Does the plastic joints have O rings or an olive?

Thinking about it couldn't you use the push fit type plastic connectors?

Ive done the same thing already mate,
you can buy a screw on fitting, literally put it around the copper pipe and tighten, it pierces the pipe and jobs a good un, its got a tap so you can turn it off for the winter etc, then its just plastic pipe with push on fitting to the outside, screw the tap to the wall and job done

Don't you have a gas torch? It's easy enough to do the job properly with a few pre-soldered fittings and copper pipe.

IS 200 Sport with a few mods, Standardish IS-F. The IS250 SE-L with a few mods has gone to a new home.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Used the same tap fitting kit as Stav, works a treat imo.
Just had to drill hole through wall to the outside, job was done start to finish in 15-20mins.

Had no leaks and no loss of water pressure at all. Easiest way to do the job.
