Hi Guys,

Still relatively new to the Lexus scene but it seems that someone or something wants to stop me from enjoy it!!

I reckon my IS200 is gonna be written off as i span off when taking an exit at a roundabout in Coventry City Centre on my way to work.
I didn't take the corner with any great speed but the wet conditions combined with a rear wheel drive and a lack of 'drifting' experience resutled in a pretty nasty crash. I mounted the kerb, getting some air in the process, the drift causing the car to swerve diagonally into a directional sign with two metal posts - these were ripped clean outta the ground including concrete foundations and then i went through a wooden fence alongside the pavement walkway before a subway entrance.
As i said i'm soooo lucky and thankful that no one else was there otherwise it could have been pretty nasty and i would be looking at a totally different situation.

Luckily no one else was involved at all; drivers or pedestrians, so somebody 'up there' clearly likes me enough not to hurt anybody!!:thumbup1:

Heres a pic of the car when i first bought it only 3 months ago:

And here is a couple of pics after the accident:

Not exactly sure what the insurers will say but my dad; an ex mechanic thinks it'll be a write -off as the chassis has actually twisted from the impact on the drivers door - event he boot door has been bent although it never got hit!

So i'm not sure if its wise to get another IS200 but i really did like it, one of the best cars i've ever driven but because of the potential hike in insurance premiums i may need to go back to crappy old front wheel drive cars :Sulk:

But i can't really complain as this was totally my fault and hope it comes as a warning to other young drivers of rear wheel drive cars, so this doesn't happen to any of you guys out there.

I'll keep the forum updated with any developments . . . . fingers crossed eh?Blush

That looks nasty! Glad you are ok!!

I don't quite understand what happened. You took an exist at the roundabout and the backend started to go? Were your tyres low or something? If you were taking the corner at a resonable speed and were smooth with the controls so as to not provoke the backend in the wet then have you checked in case there was something on the road like diesel spillage etc that might have caused it?

Main thing is you are ok! Smile

Ouch!!

But it is only metal and plastic so replaceable. I would say its a write of if the chassis is bent, they never drive right afterwords anyway. Sorry to see this.

I did check the road for any dodgy spillages of diesels etc but cudnt really see anything, i dunno how it all came about, it all happened so quick and im guessin i may have made it worse by pressing the accelerator more cos i suppose it instinctive but i really didnt know wot my feet were doin.

Glad your ok really is a same that your going to lose your pride and joy.

Hope the insurance give you a good price for it.

As your young would it be better to start again and not claim.
How did it get to the breakers.
Were the police involved if not then you might not have to pay for the sign and poles.

Main thing is your walk away....
