Wonky cambelt.
Wonky cambelt.
He seems to think it is a wonky cambelt, is there an easy way of checking this??
Also is it anything to worry about??
Just the car goes in bodyshop tuesday and im out the country from wednesday.

08-05-2017, 10:06 AM #1i heard a weird noise on start up the other day then drove to mates and could not hear it (Could just be hidden by other noises) on the move and i thought i was hearing thing, then my mate heard it when i picked him up and stated the car again

em yes it is if it goes you'll be cheaper buying a new engine,remove the top cover on the front of the engine and have a look matey....

08-05-2017, 10:19 AM #3Yes mate, if the cambelt goes then this will knock the timing out of alignment, which will mean the pistons will be still going up and down and the valves will be open, bending the valves and/or conrods, and maybe indenting the pistons.
So remove cover then start up and you should not see the belt move side to side.
Am i right??

So remove cover then start up and you should not see the belt move side to side.
Am i right??

To be honest without know what the noise is its difficult to tell, but as said above remover the small cambelt cover at the top and take a look.
If your still concerned, take it back to whovever fitted it and get them to take a look asap
They can creep a little on the pulleys, but not by much. I would find it unlikely that it could move enough to cause a real problem. Do you know if the tensioners were changed at the same time as the belt.

Pay special attention for a loose tensioned belt, sounds like it may be slapping about and hitting lower belt covers, not so much of a wonky belt, more like a very loose push bike chain, be careful as it can jump the teeth on the pulley after the initial start due to the torque of the engine, ie, worse when starting
