MR2 GTi-16
I have photos from when I repinned my door looms to accept retracting mirrors btw, if that's any use. There's 1 wire (brown I think) which is a right pain, it goes from the connector inside the car, up to the mirrors, back to the rear of the door and also up to the door control panel.
The gearbox bolt wasnt mashed until i got to it. I had the correct 24mm socket on it, but i think i was at a funny angle, so the socket came off and rounded it a little. I decided to stop and not destroy it completely. Ill give it a little heat and see if it will free up, if not ill get a new bolt from toyota, then either drill it out and use easy outs, or i might try welding a different nut to it. Hopefully the heat will break its seal, and then the new nut will make it easy to remove.
I like cars being colour coded, but i also like something to break the main colour up a bit. Ill do the front wing ones first as they are easy to remove. If they look ok ill do the rest. I know its a pain to remove most of them from the car, lots of interior stripping.
R.E the mirrors ive read it can be a pain, but there is a guide to fitting them to a UK car, and im not afraid of a bit of wiring. Its just having a spare day to strip it out. Maybe when i strip the doors down to do the side strips ill try and get it done. Problem is i have the mirrors, but i dont have the control relay or any wiring, so ill need to get that sorted.
Ah yeah, you'll be needing the relay. I think I've got the replacement mirror control unit from the door with the retract button, I'll see if I can dig it out.
The strips are all dead easy to remove with the exception of the ones that say "twin cam 16v" on them. The very front ones (with the toblerones in on imports) are hooked into the sidelights, so you have to remove them first. Then they have 3 10mm nuts inside the front wing, which you have to remove either the front undertrays or the arch liner to get to. The ones between the front wheel and the door are just stuck on with a small plastic plug inside the arch. The ones on the doors are stuck on. The ones with the writing on above the side vent are 1x10mm bolt inside which you need a deep socket for, and then 1x10mm bolt inside the wheel arch and a small screw on the lip. The rear most one is small lip screw, 10mm bolt inside the arch, and 2x10mm bolts in the boot - this is the easiest one to remove IMHO, but only on the passenger side - the driver's side has the aerial in the way!
Hope that helps.
OK i mentioned earlier some photoshops, so i knocked these up quickly. They show kind of what im looking for. The rear light will probably be darker, and i plan to get a carbon centre panel between the lights, if not it may get painted grey like the side strips

looks cool with the black wheels.
Like the idea for rear lights too
Looking good Pete, you have put a lot of effort into this project .
And well done to Terry for the pads :thumbup1:
