DO NOT come out with words like that!!!! Unless you are a competent person (must have the ACS qualification) and are charging £0 then you can fit it yourself, but must inform building control. Best way is to get someone who is gas safe registered. Gas is very dangerous if you don't know what your doing. Under supplying a gas appliance (not using big enough pipe) can be dangerous!

And i think that may have been an older rule, as there were probably a few dodgey goings in with just people "checking" its all correct.
And yes, Valliant are good, but i suppose its like a car at the end of the day. A £200 car will last 2 years, and have problems along the way, a £2000 car will last longer, and have less problems. (Theyre just examples), but i suppose its the same with anything nowadays.

Marsdendean I would recommend a Worcester all day along. We have fitted around 40 over the past year alone, and had no come backs. Even the 3 year old ones are still going. Most good boilers will only last between 8 - 10 years now, and thats when problems will start creeping up.
And regards to you dad (and don't take this the wrong way, or think i'm being nasty) but how can you be fully qualified and just come into the trade, when it took me 4 years, and i'm still learning. I just hate these fast track courses, as you can't really learn enough to be safe and competent IMO!
Stick with a Worcester 24 junior. We get these for around (roughly) £700 inc clock and flue, and again, never had any problems! Glow worms for me =
700 ! wow almost double what I was looking at, but as you say if it lasts long then worth it in the long rung.
I think im going to save for a bit longer, with the current weather dont need central heating, and hot water just about works gets to mildly warm when left running for about 10 mins lool

Marsdendean Is the control on the boiler set to maximum? If the water is only getting mildly hot it could be something like a flow switch. Also, try to turn on your heating and see if the water then becomes hot?
If you think your moving, only buy a cheep one, but it will not last that long!¬
yh the temp for the water is set to max, and with centreal heating it still does not work but the central heating works perfectly.

Obviously this involves higher cost but worth considering solar water heating for the future, we have it and haven't had to heat the water for a good few weeks.......noticed yesterday that the collector was at 80 degrees (and that's celsius)

Yerh, AJ has fitted some to his house, and they get the water to silly temperatures, meaning the boiler has to do no, or very little work during the summer (Untill the hot water runs out, then it has to jump in), but they are pretty good
