Key Casing Broke!
Key Casing Broke!
As in title I have broken my key casing for my IS200 keys, to the point where when I start the car up, the casing falls apart as im turning it!
Ive seen some flip design cases on ebay, and some original look alikes, what do people recommend I get?
And whats the easiest.
Thanks
It's your preference mate, I tried the flip key, hated it, but then again I've got rid of keys altogether lol
The electronics ares simple to move, but you'll have to check with key cutters if they can do it as they need a fine cutter.
I've just received a flip key (eBay) to replace one of the two broken keys that came with my car (the valet key is mint, but the other two are broken/cracking) and it's not a great quality item. Ok, it was only £7, but it needs a stronger spring to flip the key out properly, and it's a little bulky. But, I'm gonna see if I can get it cut and see how I live with it anyway. I've already transferred the button pack from one of the busted keys into it, just to check it all fits and is useable, so I also checked that it should work in regard to the transponder - as I'd read here and there that the transponder is too far away for the key to work. Used the now empty key and of course the engine only turned over and wouldn't start. So I tried again holding the flip key against the now empty key at about the position it would be if it was just the flip key and the engine started no problem. So by the looks of it, it will start the car. Just got to get the blade cut now
Question - the transponder in the button pack. I take it is powered by the battery in the key? When the battery gets low, will the signal strength of the transponder also get low, as in low enough that I won't be able to start the car? If so, is it easy to change the battery over or will it lose all it's programming?
As far as I know the transponder for the immobiliser isn't powered, only the remote is but someone please correct me if I'm wrong
Correct the transponder is just a little "rock" in the corner of the fob.
