Anyone had or been in one of these? Have just seen a few for sale on piston heads and for my lex plus a couple of grand I could end up with a newer more powerful + awd motor, with the same thirst for fuel.

Beautiful drive mate, I test drove one a couple of days ago as I am looking at getting one.

Powerful, practical, smooth, luxurious, AWD, reasonable economy for the performance etc...

Reviews are great as is reliability, you don't expect anything less from Jap though!

They can look amazing with a few minor touches! They perform very well! Power is always there too!

Get out and test drive one, well worth it! :-) I'm sold on it! You get ALOT of car for the money!

I'm looking very seriously at them for purchase in the new year

Having a little trouble deciding between the 3 and 6 though - but as the 6 has 4WD it's edging things for me...

IS200 Sport - Sold
Mazda 6 MPS - Zoom Zoom!

Modifications
Completed:

Currently 280bhp/295lbft; 3" Meercat custom exhaust; KW Suspension; FMIC; SSP; HPFP; Custom Stainless Steel Dials - for the moment, the only set in the world!! (Till the group buy for MPSOC anyway  )

In Progress:

E-Tuning remap ongoing via Cobb Accessport; Braided brake lines; Stubby aerial; Tinted repeaters and sidelights; 3 Port Boost Control Solenoid; 3" HTP Intake

Must admit its the awd which is doing it for me also. Don't really want a scooby, can't afford an Audi Quattro and whilst I know the don't exactly look exciting I'm more for performance than looks

Yep, Phil, I am... contemplating it anyway... Will see what happens in the new year, but there's not a massive amount more I want to do with the IS, and really all that's left that I'd want is more power. And if it's 5k say for a turbo conversion then I'd probably be better off using that cash to simply buy a car with more power in the first place than take the risk of problems - I'm no Stav or Ormi, anything that needed fixed or went pop would cost me bigtime... Smile

A common issue is turbo oil seal failure, let the car idle for 10 mins after your test drive if it starts to smoke there is a turbo issue. Seen a couple do this.

"Life's goal is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body. But, rather to skid in sideways........
totally worn out and broken, shouting 'Holy ****, WHAT A RIDE!'"

I had a 3mps for a year and have test driven a couple of the 6's. Worth trying to get an early one if you can cos the tax bracket changes. Go for one registered before a certain date in March 06 (think it is the 23rd march and you will save a couple of hundred notes a year.) Check out the owners club at http://mpsowners.co.uk to read up on the turbo issues and also the vvti issue.
It is definitely a car worth considering. Understated stealthy looks and practicality of a 4 door saloon with 260bhp + AWD and a few upgrades / remaps etc to chose from.

Smile I ran a quick insurance cost check on a 6 MPS and it's about 350 cheaper than I'm currently paying for the IS  so logically if there's an increase in tax cost it'd be offset a bit anyways
