I'm at my wits end trying to remove the passenger side driveshaft from the Fez. It's a normal driveshaft setup, splined shaft that enters diff has a circlip type thing on the end to stop the driveshaft coming out of the gearbox. According to the Haynes book of lies a sharp tug should remove the shaft from the box, and if that doesn't work a light smack with some kind of lever should suffice. Well we BENT a CROWBAR last night trying to get it out, not to mention snapping a rib off the gearbox.

Any suggestions?! The driver's side one just falls out no nonsense, but this one is doing my nut in.

theres not another circlip inside the diff is there?

second thoughts, is the handbrake on and can the rear wheels turn (ie off the ground) the other end could be geared and may need to turn the wheels as it slides out.

Just the 1 on the end of the driveshaft, in the groove on the left of this pic:

Chances are the circlip is not located. apply pressure to drive shaft, I.e pull on it, and tap the cv body while rotating the shaft. If this fails, remove the gearbox lower cover to reveal the diff. Spin it so you can see the end of the spline and tap it out. I've had.nightmares with.these types in the past

Chances are the circlip is not located. apply pressure to drive shaft, I.e pull on it, and tap the cv body while rotating the shaft. If this fails, remove the gearbox lower cover to reveal the diff. Spin it so you can see the end of the spline and tap it out. I've had.nightmares with.these types in the past

As it happens it's only the CV cup/body that's left in the box now, the CV joint was knackered so pulling it predictably just made it fall apart.

Will try tapping while rotating and see where that gets us. Really don't want to take the gearbox apart if I can avoid it...

Ok well give it a go. If you have the other side shaft out, could you get to it from that side with a drift to hit the end of the stuck cv joint?

Fozzy Ok well give it a go. If you have the other side shaft out, could you get to it from that side with a drift to hit the end of the stuck cv joint?

That was on my list of things to try. I wasn't sure if it would be clear all the way through but according to that rebuild guide it is!

Smacking out with a drift from the other side WHILE levering it with a crowbar worked :thumbup1: Replacing the driveshafts hasn't cured the problem but that's another story...
