Had a go myself at detailing my Evo (Lots of Pics)!!!
Hi guys,
My car had been at TRL for quite a while so I decided that when I got chance I wanted to do a proper detail of it. The car was cleaned for me before I collected but I wanted to go much further.
I was actually inspired when I saw Matt@TRLs Evo 10 being detailed at TRL. I have been into detailing on and off for years but I've never really had the chance to really do a proper job until now. I have have a garage so can spread the work out over a few days.
Before I started:
My Kit
I updated my detailing kit to include the Werk Stat kit which is supposed to be great for silver cars.
Wash
Started with AB Magifoam over whole car
Then washed car using AB Banana Gloss Shampoo using the two bucket method.
The wheels (which were new anyway) were cleand using my long wheel brush and AB Very Berry Wheel Cleaner.
Car was looking much cleaner now with a nice shine!
Removal of Tar and Decontaminants

My car had been at TRL for a while so obviously there is alot of iron and metal filings in the air from the work they do so I was recommended to use Iron-X to remove iron contaminants.
My Products of choice (or what I had in the garage)
Iron-X turns any contaminants into purple! I was gobsmacked at the amount of contamination it found - remember that car had just been cleaned!!:eek::eek:
:eek::eek:
Car was then clayed and washed again uisng my foaming lance and AB MagiFoam and then washed using the two bucket method with AB Banana Gloss Shampoo.
Car looking much cleaner now!
Machine Polishing
Car was then masked off and prepared for machine polishing. Now I had never really done this properly before and because I know Evo paint is very thin I used a mild pad and compound - the paint was in good condition anyway with only a few hairline scratches that needed dealing with. This is where I'm sure a professional experienced detailer would get much better results then me, but because this was my first time I didn't want to take any risks. mthumbup
Car was moved into the garage and over a period of a few days machine polished using SONUS SFX-3 pad and compound. I used the SFX-2 on any slightly deeper scratches but overall this left the paint feeling lovely and smooth.
Engine Bay
Once car was machine polished it was time to tackle the engine bay.
Before:
I sprayed carefully Meguairs All Purpose Cleaner (4:1 Ratio) and scrubbed clean using my detailing brushes. I cleaned all rubber pipes with Poorboys Natural Look Rubber/Vinyl cleaner. I also waxed the cam cover and all carbon with Victoria's Concourse Wax. Metal Pipes were polished using Race Glaze Metal Polish.
Interior
I used the following products the clean the interior of the car:
Interior carpets and mats we washed using Meguairs All Purpose Cleaner and then vacuumed clean.
Seats were treated with leather cleaner and conditioner. The Alcantara was cleaned using Raceglaze Alcantara Cleaner.
Interior trim was cleaned using Poorboy Natural Look Vinyl/Rubber cleaner
Interior was fragranced using Auto Brite Air Freshener.mthumbup
Windows were cleaned using Autoglym Window Cleaner
Workstat Kit
Car was taken back out of garage and masking tape removed and it was washed again to get rid of any residues left over from the polishing.
I had a major balls up here as when I removed the masking tape from the carbon front splitter it look the lacquar off with it!! :goingmad::goingmad:hake: I will have to sort it out at a later date.
Once washed and dried again I applied the Acrylic Prime Paint Cleaner. Then I applied 3 coats of the Acrylic Jet Sealant taking 1 hour between each application. Finally I finished with a coat of the Acrylic Glos.
Car paintwork was so shiny and beautifully crisp. mthumbupmthumbup
Finishing Off
All carbon was waxed using Victoria's Concurs Wax and the wheels were also sealed using the Werkstat Kit. Tyres were shined up using AutoBrite Tyre Shine. Exhaust was polished using Raceglaze Metal Polish. mthumbup
