Halfords, LOL,
Halfords, LOL,
This morning I popped into Halfords to buy some penetrating oil as I was off to fit pads and discs to a Jag as I know the disc can get stuck to the hub.
I asked the assistant if they had any Plusgas, the look on his face said it all, maybe I was speaking "Russian", he then asked two other assistants if they stock it. All three had never heard of the product but then he pointed to WD40 stating that it was a dedicated penetrating oil. Total disbelief that the biggest car maintenance retailer had no knowledge of car products.
I then sarcastically asked if they sell "Powered by fairy dust" stickers or do they stock the Chrome self adhesive "sport" badges, the assistant pointed to the aisle that they were kept in. That said it all about Halfords
I walked out of there shaking my head.
ROFL imo they do seem to be departing a bit from the mechanical side of things and concentrating more on cosmetics. For example, you can get some decent waxes/polishes and claybars in there now.
But regardless, 90% of their employees are no more than ex-tesco checkout staff.
I did apply for a job but was turned down for the following reasons:
1 - To old
2 - knew the difference between a turbo and Super charger
3 - would turn up at work reliably
4 - knew what plusgas was and what it is for (they do sell it)
5 - didn't want to be powered by fairy dust.
6 - wanted more then minimum wage.

I put in a CV when I came back from germany they decided if you had Quals in mechanics you where over qualified for the position
Waste of time in there I only go in there if I know exactly what I want and get it on trade
Do you guys not think it's a bit harsh? Should a big high street chain necessarily know about products they don't stock?
Isn't it a bit like going into Ikea and expecting high quality furniture?
But parth. .three members of staff have never heard of Plus gas..
there adverts on tv/radio always say home of all your motoring needs
they do make me laugh when i worked for the RAC and was in there people would ask questions and 9 out of 10 times i would point them in the right direction cuz the staff who was talking to them was trying to sell them an item they didnt need
for example old couple with a 1ltr car needed a new battery he was trying to sell them one for a 2ltr and more expensive thats just stupidity
Its the same with other stores such as PC world, hate it when they have no idea on what you after, and then even more when they blagging to other customer trying to sell things !
I have corrected them many times whilst stood there ! I have no shame in interrupting them !
