Having just come back from a few weeks in Florida and jumping into my recently purchased LS460, the first thing I wanted to do was make it nice and toasty inside.

But I can't Sad

No matter what settings i choose, whether it be the A/C on or off, having the air blowing in my face or on the floor, recirculate, 4 zone, pollen filter, air filter...or all set to auto and simply increasing the temperature dial. It just wont heat up!

Engine reaches temp within a few minutes and sits dead in the middle of the dial, so there's definitely some heat there. It's just not being pumped into the cabin.

There may be a blockage somewhere in your heater matrix or air in the system. Park the car facing upwards on a slight gradient then run the engine with the radiator cap off for a while. When it comes up to temp any air should escape. I've heard that its sometimes better to run the heater when doing this.

Yes, you should have the heater set on hot whenever you bleed the coolant, as there may be air in the heater matrix and if it's not set on hot the coolant isn't flowing through it, so the air can't get out.

Jim I'm just gonna check to see if your heater valve setup is the same as my LS400 was...

Nope, heater control valve is integrated into the matrix in the centre console in the LS460 so not easy to get at / diagnose.

Bummer. I'll give the bleeding a try though and see if it helps.

I recall reading that on the LS400 there was some kind of 'test' function for the heater matrix? Something like holding down the circulation button for 10 seconds? Is there something similar for the LS460 do you know?

Weirdly, the LS460 I looked at before buying this one also had heater problems as the dealer openly admitted he hadn't been able to work out how to get it hot.

UPDATE: I have heat!...but hows this for weird...

I can only get heat if I'm hooning the car around! I took the car out this evening for a bit of a drive, gave it some welly and instantly heat started pumping out of the vents. However when I got stuck in traffic for more than 3 minutes, it started cooling down again!

Hoon = heat. But not so good on icy mornings :/

Your thermostat is stuck open by the sound of it! Does the gauge take ages to go up to warm?

Negative. Gauge gets up to temp within a couple of minutes.

Coolant level in the reservoir is below the 'low' level at the moment though, but that was a result of me opening the tank which made it gurgle lots and drop a fair bit.

I'm going to try bleeding it as suggested and top up the coolant, but I'm not convinced it's gonna fix it. Fingers crossed though :/

Possibly just an airlock - that's why it dropped a lot when you opened the system. A little more air stuck somewhere in that complex system still.

Hopefully you got all the air out.
Last time I had an airlock it caused my car to die of headgasket failure.
Can imagine on your car that will be seriously costly.
