So finally got a set of winter tyres to shoe the spare rims I picked up from Koss, I popped into a local garage/mot place about a mile from my house yesterday to ask how much it'd be to fit them. Bearing in mind the wheels aren't on the car, so no jacking the car up and removing/refitting wheels; just literally take old tyres off, re-valve, fit new tyres and balance. I was expecting probably £50, maybe £40 in light of not having to jack car up etc.

£92!!!! NINETY-TWO-QUID [Image: wow.gif]

£9.50 tyre swap
£4 valve
£9.50 wheel balance

At first I thought he meant it's £9.50 per wheel to swap tyres, plus another £4 for valves (4 @ £1 each) and another £9.50 to balance the wheels, making £51.50 - but then he said it's all PER WHEEL!

I just laughed at him and walked away! I mean it's a local business, been there donkeys years, but it's the sort of small/family business that should be grateful to get local work rather than losing it to the brand/chain companies (and my town has an ATS, Halfords AutoCentre and another chain place in it). ATS will actually come to my house, do it all there, for less money!

I dunno if he uses gold valves, sticks the weights on with bull semen and inflates the tyres using fairy-breath, but £92? What a chump....

if you get a chance to refurb those wheels, send me some pictures. I bought all the stuff to do it, but couldn't be bothered in the end.

If I'm gonna refurb them, it won't be next spring when I swap back to summer wheels/tyres, but I won't be doing it myself - don't have the space, time or patience!

I should add I'm quite impressed to find that the IS can take four 17" rims, with tyres, on the back seats, and another four 17" tyres in the boot! Pretty impressive for a saloon car to be able to hold eight 17" wheels/tyres!!!!

most places near me charge £'s for inches- 18'' wheel, £18 plus tyre disposal fee of £5 per tyre- so similar pricing..

Likes of ATS etc wont touch them unless they supply the tyres.

Halfords won't do it (I rang them) but both ATS and National Tyres would do it no prob. ATS would come to my house and do it for £90, or Nationals would do it for £60 if I took the rims and tyres to them
