Right, as I'm going to need to let my engine breathe a bit more I'm going to get a decat stainless section up front and fit a sports cat in behind, I'm completely stuck when it comes to what cat back/backbox to get.

I've wasted an hour or so on youtube listening to exhausts and I don't like any of them. I'm after something that isn't loud on idle and doesn't drone too much. I don't have enough cash to do the trial and error method.

Basically, show me what you've got! Any of you guys with completely custom set ups it would be nice to get a clip of it running, as this is also an option.

HKS silent hi-power or anything similar is a definite no.

You realise that your basically just describing a standard exhaust?

When I first fitted my HKS silent hi-power there wasn't any difference in sound on idle IMO.

If you look on the my.IS forum there is a huuuuuge thread on exhaust options. Not all will be available/cheap in the UK but there are loads of sound clips of various exhausts on there.

As above. Most aftermarket exhausts are going to be noisier than standard. The silent power isn't really so bad, thee are a lot louder and a lot worse, quality wise, you could choose.
I use a kakimoto 06&r. On idle when cold it's quite loud but as soon as it warms it's reasonably quiet! But when you drive and put your foot down it's loud! I run a straight through system though so if your only decatting it may not be ridiculous.

Good luck in your search whatever you choose, ill be interested to see a quiet aftermarket back box Smile

To have just described the standard back box! You've got to think the decat manifold and sports cat should make the standard exhaust note different. Then when you do fit a back box it will completely change.

Mines fully decatted with the standard resonator box and a hks legamax backbox and mines quiet on idle and raspy through the rev range.

Dave - I've heard yours I think, that actually sounds pretty nice. Don't fancy selling it do you :p

When I say I don't want it to be loud, I mean I don't want it to be heard too much when I'm sitting in traffic, or have an utterly horrendous drone on the motorway. I'm quite happy for it to shout above 4000rpm.

Been on the phone to a mate who works at an exhaust building place back in Northampton and he says I should get some straight through silencers so it's quiet on idle and a bit louder when the revs are going. I think I'm going to get something custom made from the decat - backbox section and then just find a backbox I like.

Will have a look on my.IS, cheers Sprinter.

found one I like on MY.IS, tanabe medallion touring. Only available in the US as far as I can work out and it isn't cheap! Seems to sound pretty good on 6 cylinders but rather naff on 4 cylinders.

edit: or the apexi WS2
