passenger windows wont go up or down.
i hear a clicking of a relay form the passenger side when the buttons are pressed on the drivers door, the drivers window works as normal, the button on the drivers door functions as normal because the clicking relay stops when the window-lock is on.
the previous owner had used a piece of wire coming from one fuse to another in the passenger fuse compartment which made the windows work, i removed the wire because i want to get to the bottom of the fault as the windows opened and closed even with the locking button pressed or not, i had no control over the kids opening the windows!
Could this be due to a faulty relay not sending a live (v+) to the windows?
Dave.
sounds very dodgy!
is this all windows or just the 2 on the passenger side? there is a "PW relay" behind the passenger fuse box that turns the power onto the fuses for the poassenger windows (all three)
that relay gets power from the 10A gauge fuse on the drivers side and is earthed in the drivers switch, that allows the locking button to work because it just simply removes the ground from the relay and cuts off all power.
It's drivers rear, passenger rear and passenger front that don't work.
then its the relay or supply to the relay thats knackered,
get the relay out and test it, if it works its possibly the drivers window switch thats broken,
no i've not checked the relay yet but i'm wondering it's not that at all because when i press the window down button on the drivers door for the rear window i can hear a clicking noise in the rear door but the windows do nothing. so some kind of signal is getting the the rear doors for the windows but the windows fail to move, but they do in fact work and did with that wire in place bridging two fuses so somewhere along the line it seems the fuse in the fuse box isn't getting a live feed to it, i'll take a look at the relay today anyway.
The switches have a relay inthem so that's the clicking, they are powered by the body ecu hence them working.
It's the 'pw realy' behind the passenger fuse box, you've got to remove the 2 bolts to get to it. You don't have to unplug everything
i switched the bottom left relay (PW) with the middle relay and it made no difference to the windows, the relay that came out of PW worked because it was operating correctly when installed in the middle location.

all the fuses are working and none are blown, the plastic cover is missing form the top grey fuse but it is still working correctly. the top blue (right) and the top left (yellow) fuses had been joined together with a length of wire and the windows worked even when the keys was out of the ignition. something seems really odd. the main supply for the windows is getting power from the battery through a main fuse then to the rest of the car through the fuse box because my drivers window works and the windows on the passenger doors click so something is working. when the button is pressed on the drivers door to lock the passenger windows the clicking in the passenger door stops so the locking button is working, but the passenger windows fail to go up or down using either the main drivers door buttons or the buttons on the passenger doors. (put's hands on head and pulls hair out)
