So i have had Virgin media come and install there 30mb system in my house, but i would like the internet at the bottom of my garden about 60ft aproximate from the house(i have a man cave) what possible ways would i be able to get the internet down there, ie,,cable all the way from router to man cave or is there a signal booster i could get what are my options.
Mike
You can get Signal boosters
But this does depend on what interferance it may get from other units, if you can run a cable i would do that.
Once i build the new workshop(outgrown current one) i will be installing a Phone system and Network system in there along with CCTV and will al be on cat5 cables admittedly i buy in bulk at work so i can screw them down on prices lol
What about the ones that transmit via the plug sockets maybe?
mike have you got the virgin home super hub if so if its the one that uses fiber ops you can add up to +10 by running a standard internet cable from ur hub to you virgin tivo box with the fiber ops as well signal going to the home hub =higher better signal. If that makes any sense hope it helps if not Il try and upload some photos to show how to do it.

I have 2 wireless repeaters and they work great through my thick walls and ceilings.
Only cheap of Ebay worth a punt?
Sink some CAT5 into the ground. You could use powerline (I have before) but to be sure it would work reliably you'd have to run the man cave from the same ring main as wherever your router is - you get a ~30% signal drop going across the consumer unit and more over distance.
CAT5 (i.e. a long network cable) is the right answer.
cheers guys thanks for the input,
So im thinking for the most reliable way to get access with out dropping out would be to cable.
I have looked at the CAT5 cable is there any differance between this and CAT5e ?
Iceman - i only have the internet as dont watch that much tv so it was pointless getting it.
Phil - i would try the repeter idea if it wasn't that far away it just seams quite a distance
You would struggle to get CAT5 cable these days, it was superseded by CAT5e about 10 years ago. Anywhere that's selling stuff labelled CAT5 is almost certainly selling CAT5e. You want CAT5e.
I would make sure you get outdoor grade CAT5e with a polyethylene sheath (it's usually black). Other stuff is designed for installing in walls and voids and is low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) which is great in a building which might catch fire but it's not weatherproof.
