Exhaust system
All exhaust silencers must be maintained in a good and efficient working order. You will be breaking the law if you remove a silencer or make any modification that would make that vehicle emit a noise louder than the original exhaust before it was modified.
Can anyone clarify this for me? As I am a bit concerned about the fact I have removed a silencer from my exhaust system and it is significantly louder then standard.

E-Tuning remap ongoing via Cobb Accessport; Braided brake lines; Stubby aerial; Tinted repeaters and sidelights; 3 Port Boost Control Solenoid; 3" HTP Intake
Either way it refers to modifying an exhaust... most of us have replaced it not modified it. Which is perfectly fine

Interestingly there is a part of the MOT test where the tester is supposed to fail or advise (at their discretion) if they believe a modified or non-standard exhaust to be significantly louder than stock. Which in turn means all MOT testers must know how loud all stock exhausts are, from a Fiesta to a Ferrari...

ad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. ad:I know this thread is quite old now, but my last two MOTs have had "noisy exhaust" as an advisory. The Lexus is just a back box and not even that loud but my other car has a full system and is very loud. Just advisory though, not failure.
