CREE sidelights, what a difference!
CREE sidelights, what a difference!
I decided to see what all this 'CREE' malarky was about after seeing so many guys on my PC forum getting them for night rides on their mountain bikes.
I got a pair of 8W CREE bulbs off eBay for £8 delivered, and here are a few comparison shots between the CREE sidelights, my existing SMD sidelights, and my HID headlights.
Standard LED on the left, CREE with projector lens on the right...
Standard LED on the right, CREE with projector lens on the left...
CREE bulb on the right still visible even with my HID dipped beams on, wich are 300% brighter than halogen anyway!
I then realised the lens was making the beam far too focused for a car sidelight, so I removed it and got the following photos...
This is CREE only on the left, and HID only on the right...
And this is HID only on the left, and CREE only on the right...
And one final shot of both CREE lights together with no dipped beam...
I had some CREE sidelights for a bit as well, but I took them out for exactly the same reason you did. The beam pattern ****** people off immensely.
Cool bits of kit though, I've got a pair that I was planning on using as reverse lights.
Once I realised you could take out the projector lens they were fine. They now give a very similar pattern to the other LEDs I had in there. I'll give them a try and see how they are for the next few weeks.
I was worried they wouldn't fit through the hole in the headlight housing though as they are about 3 times bigger than the LED equivalent!
