My S14 Kouki
My S14 Kouki
Hi Guys
A little about my car, it's very definitely a project for me and has been now for going on 6 years. I've always blogged this car, if you want to read it in full then the link is http://projectpw5.piman2k.com/
I bought it in 2009 as a fairly standard car; it had a bigger GT2871 turbo, a dodgy intercooler, some SARD 550's and a remap, some lowering springs and some Project Mu pads.
The head gasket exploded after a few thousand miles of happy motoring, and I decided I wanted to make a more aggressive, track orientated car. I bought a built forged engine, some better brakes, a body kit, some better suspension and some Work wheels.
It pretty much got out of control and has gone that way ever since. But what I've managed to knock together is a pretty capable track focused car that I've had loads of fun in.
It was off the road for a year or so last year while I ordered a trick new turbo set up from Borg Warner/Full Race and gearbox kit from Mazworx America. At the same time I had some paint refreshing, a new rear bumper, some new Ganadors and refinished sideskirts.
It still needs optimising, it has the wrong wastegate springs fitted but I'm changing them on Friday and then it'll be remapped again to see what a difference it has made. But for now, here's some pictures taken a few weeks ago. My absolute pride and joy, hope you like it
Very nice mate!
Need engine bay shots!
Brief update, I slung new wastegate springs in to try and give the turbo a kick. Worked well.
Last mapping went well, even in the 33 degree heat. I need to go back on a cold day for a power run, still waiting on Jez for the curves. Craig dropped the engine oil while it was there because I simply hadn't had time.
Drove it back, felt very different. Last weekend I dropped the box oil out having found it was full of GL-5 when it needed GL-4. Thanks to the SXOC for the help figuring that one out. It's on Comma 75W-90 Semi Synth GL-4 at the moment. The box showed some accumulation of iron on the magnetic drain plug, according the 300ZX owners this is normal. I'm not so sure.
Anyway, made it on track on Bedford. Had an amazing morning, car behaved really well. Power comes on song right when you want it as you leave the apex of a tight turn and it pretty savage. Overpowered my 595RS-R's on several occasions.
Spotted some smoke in the afternoon under the bonnet, some of my firesleeve had cooked itself. Couldn't figure out why. Then a 'ting' sound popped out, looked at the turbo area and 3 of the 4 nuts have gone walkabout, thus lifting the flange and blowing the gasket. Bit of a shame as there was hours left in the day, but not a complex fix. Booked at H-Dev to do the gasket next week unless I find the gear to do it here. New gasket on the way from Turbo Dynamics (£12.54 delivered).
Some pics from Bedford, not all of them as I don't want to bore you. New rear and front looks lush IMO.
Looks so good!
Thank you very much guys, appreciate the kind words! It's burned out a turbo gasket I've noticed, because the turbo stud nuts have worked loose. A bit of a strange one, I assume it was the heat. So I've ordered some Inconel studs up from America, they will be here next week.
