I'm planning to make an earth kit for my tezza next week, having loads of electrical issues and I think earths might be the issue as it had an earth kit last year and the power fc ran, after the head rebuild I must have binned the earth kit being a retard and now power fc doesn't run and the car is a bit sketchy at times. Idle drops often, lights dim alot when using windows, afr display dims randomly too.

I've read up on it and know basically where I am going to route it but I'm not too hot on electrics so any help would be much appreciated! Using some 16mm cable with lots of thin strands of copper. My battery is in the boot but instead of connecting the negative on the standard wiring to the chassis and the negative on the battery to the chassis I extended both wires all the way to the back. Used some mega cable I got from work, very high quality and very thick. Voltage on the gauge on the dash reads the same as what's on the battery so it's obviously man enough not to be dropping over that distance.

Plan to go from driver side turret to alternator, up to inlet manifold, to the head where there is a standard earth point and then over to the passenger side turret. I might also take off the earth from gearbox to engine and make a new one there. Then I plan to branch off the battery into a standard weld nut on the car where the back seats are. I also have a separate earth coming off the fuel pump relay in the boot, bolted down to 2 different weld nuts.

By doing that, I am making a join from all the standard earths to the battery not only by running a cable to the battery but also through the chassis. Is that right? or am I completely on the wrong track here. I read something about grounding loops too, am I right to believe I need to cut my negative cable which goes to the battery, earth it to the chassis at the front and earth the battery to the chassis at the back or does that not make any difference.

Or am I completely wrong and it's just my alternator needs changing

Extra earths certainly won't hurt mate!

yea it will definately help I just dont really understand how electricity travels. basically just worried about it having so many new path options and weather that makes a difference or not. dont want to be messing up any sensor signals

the whole car is an earth, so the more contact you can get between the negative of the battery and the chassis, and most importantly the engine the better.

Some sensors, and spark plugs use the block as their earth connection so a well earthed engine is good, better spark etc.

Awesome, cheers mate! Gonna get on that next week along with an ecu extension harness. Plenty of wiring to get on with

Sorry if this is off topic But the cable you got from work Can you get any more? and if yes for how much?, I'm looking for a 2m length of the same cable but needs to be as close to 0AWG as possible (this leads me to the next tip) when grounding out a car you should use the same or thicker cable for your Ground as the Positive (especially with Audio)

Nah I don't work there anymore. It's good stuff though, think its 0awg dual shield. I used 16mm for the earthwires and it hasn't seemed to make any difference (not surprised to be honest) soobviously got some electrical gremlins that are hiding away
