Nissan provides 'wheels' to #DonateAWheelchair campaign in South Africa
ROSSLYN, South Africa – Nissan handed over five sponsored wheelchairs to individuals in and around Pretoria, South Africa last weekend as part of the Barkzz Foundation's #DonateAWheelchair campaign.The broader campaign is ultimately aimed to donate 200 wheelchairs to disadvantaged individuals living across South Africa who are not part of disability centers. Nissan's corporate vision is to enrich the lives of others through a strong focus on mobility, community and sustainability."It is our hope that through this initiative we will be able to fulfill our brand promise of enhancing the lives of others and help to empower these individuals to make meaningful contributions to their community," said Keba Matlhako, senior manager, BBBEE, ED and CSR Corporate Affairs.#DonateAWheelchair was launched by the Barkzz Foundation, an organization that advocates for the social integration of people with disabilities. The campaign is based on the idea that people with disabilities have as much potential to contribute to society as physically abled people when platforms are put in place for them to access the same opportunities.The Pretoria handover of the wheelchairs took place at the beneficiaries' residences to allow for greater community interaction. Nissan assisted with the handover by providing transport for the Barkzz Foundation to and from the handover locations.The handovers were held over three days, with the first being on the March 18 in Winterveld and Hammanskraal and the second on March 19 in Olievenhoutbosch and Arcadia; the third and final handover was on March 20 in Ga-Rankuwa.
