Because when you subtract the two digits from your first number you ALWAYS gets a multiple of 9.

37 - 7 -3 = 27 (3*9)
69 - 6 - 9 = 54 (6*9)
etc

If you look on the table all the multiples of 9 are the same thing so she must be right
