Lowering?
Lowering?
I'm pretty sure this has been covered before but just wanted to check, is it worth while and safe to put new lower springs on old shocks provided the shocks are still in good working order with no problems? the cars going in for the MOT in the next week or so and provided the shocks are fine i'm thinking of asking Santa for some 40mm lowering springs, I know your shocks are only supposed to have 10 year life span but if there's no issues with them would I be able to go ahead:confused1: or is it just not worth doing.
Cheers.
Yes, I put TTE lowering springs on my used OEM shocks, and they've been fine. I'm sure that they'd be even better with brand-new shocks, but my current setup still does pretty well.
Marsdendean Sorry to steal your thread andy, but i was also wondering is it worth lowering my IS200. It is quite low at this moment in time, and if i go over very large speed humps with a lot of weight, it sometimes catchs - i was wondering should i juet buy some arbs, or lower it then arbs?Depends what you're trying to achieve. Springs are a lot cheaper than ARBs, and will give you a cosmetic improvement via lowering, and a small handling improvement. You'll need your geometry resetting afterwards.

you can try measuring the height between the centre of the wheel arch (the outer bit of the arch) and the ground. On mine with the TTE lowering springs it's around 63 cm at the front and 66 cm at the rear.
If you're looking for better cornering, forget the springs, it's ARBs that you want, for a big improvement.
Are yours the original shocks Steve? as your cars the same year as mine, also were the shocks on the Sport and SE the same and it was the springs that were different? I want to improve the car visually it's far too high but corners well enough for what I use it for.
I don't know for sure Andy, but I got the car with 45K on it and I suspect they probably would have been the original ones, yes.
I think it was just the springs that were different between SE and Sport, mine is a Sport but as a 1999 one still rode like a 4x4 in height
