New F1 points
New F1 points
It seems another plan to change the F1 points scoring system has been put in place - not sure if it will actually happen like the whole medals thing, but this one seems more likely to be in place for 2010.
New points structure is 25, 20, 15, 10, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1.
What do you all think? I like the general idea, means more cars score points (obviously essential with more cars on the grid next year) and I like how there is a bigger gap in points at the top meaning that you've got to go for a better position and can't just "settle" anymore.
However, the only downside I see is that if someone does a "Jenson" by winning several of the races and then putting in lacklustre performances for the rest of the year, they will potentially have an even bigger advantage than they currently do. It might have made more sense to go for 20, 16, 13, 10, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1 as that would offer less opportunity to run away with it but still return the bias towards winning races.
F1 has shown though that they'd rather make radical changes (*cough* one lap qualifying) than actually think things through a bit.
I think points for qualifying should be awarded also. Then if you "do a Jenson" (I like that phrase) you will suffer for not being able to qualify also.

I never liked the change from the previous 10,6, etc system to 10,8 etc. I think I'll have to wait and see how the new system works out, difficult to tell with the extra cars etc for next year. I think it's good to reward those who do win, with more than a couple of extra points, but I also agree with your point Parthiban about the danger of someone "running away with it" at the start of the season.
