What a day...
What a day...
Well, where do I start...
Had the day off work today- needed to drive the wife up to the hospital.
Got back from the hospital, had a parcel waiting for me with my next door neighbour- new shower pump. Got that fitted, but found that the pipes supplied with the new pump were short.
Popped out to B&Q for longer pipes (none in stock). Wife popped out for some milk and bread (whlist I was at B&Q). Wife was out of the house for 15 mins max -got a call from the wife whlist I was still at B&Q- wife discovered we've been broken into whlist we were both out! hock:hock::angry::angry:
The back double conservatory doors have been busted open and the :cursing: were working on the internal doors (leading into the dining room) when they were disturbed.
What's the damage? Busted locks and handles- we were lucky as nothing had been taken (there was a TV and sky box in the conservatory)- if they had got the internal doors open (leading into to the dining room and the rest of the house), then that would have been it- plasma/lcd tv's, games consoles, ipods, laptops etc gone.
Its going to cost a few quid to replace the locks and handles- insurance excess is more than paying for the damage myself, therefore not going through the insurance. We are also having door jammers and uprated locks fitted in order to make the doors more secure. Had the police, CSI (dusting for prints etc) and locksmith round.
Its going to be an expensive January- I'm having 4 new tyres put on the IS200 on saturday (Yokohama C drive asymetrics) and the car insurance is up for renewal next month.
gutted for you mate,
must agree with Marsdendean an alarm can help.
Luckily my brother in law fits them so cost me next to nothing.
Really sorry to hear this has happened to you.
We had the top and bottom locks added to our old doors and this stops them lifting the doors off the hidges, but if someone is determined to break in they will.
What these extra security device do is add to the entry time of the thief and make them think twice about looking for the easier house option.
Hope you get this sorted soon as i had to move when this happened to us as i worked shifts and the wife was scared of being on her own at that house.
Thanks for the replies chaps.
Yep- contact the police- they had a look around and talked to the neighbours, no one saw anything.
In addition to the lockable sash jammers, I will be putting up some extra/security lighting in the back garden and an alarm sensor in the convservatory- the rest of the house has an alarm system.
Lexusboy is right- if they are determined to get in they will. Adding extra locks etc will only slow them down/make the entry time longer.
As I said, I think we got off pretty lightly- it could have been worse if they had actually got inside the house. My dad's mate is a locksmith, so we are getting replacement locks/handles etc at mates rates.
Have been talking to the police again this morning and apparently they is a gang going round our estate (private not council) knocking on doors- if someone answers the door, then the gang simply make an excuse and move onto the next house until they can find an empty house.

Sorry to hear this mate, it's one of the worst feelings when someone's been in your house. Really lucky they didn't get into the main house though, is the conservatory one of those double glazed upvc types? If so how did they get through the doors with all the multipoint locking and such? Just curious as I always thought those types of doors are pretty much impenetrable to simple brute force (we have those types of doors too)

Sorry to hear mate, glad nothing got stolen though.
We had two guys break into our house one night a couple of years ago, forced the front door open by popping the lock whilst we were all asleep, stole wallets, then took 2 sets of car keys moved my brothers 306 off the drive (cleverly they didn't start the car as it's diesel) left the keys in my brothers car door abandoned in the middle of our road and stole my Dad's brand new audi it was only 2months old

What are lockable sash jammers? They sound like they're for sliding doors? Ours aren't sliding if that's what they are, but either way I'm going to be looking for these videos to see how it's done.
That's pretty scary if they can get through everything though.......
