Hi Guys,
I have an S grade 200 without premium sound system.
I took my head unit out and replaced it with a clarion mp3 radio/cd,
Once fitted the bass response was poor/non existent, when I had this clarion fitted in my MR2, and a corolla the bass produced was amazing, you could feel it.
So the question is why does it sound so tinny in my Lex, but great in other cars.
I wish to fit a double din HU but dont want to waste £200+ just to get c**p sound.
When I refitted original Hu the bass returned.
Does the S model have an amp and do I need amp by pass lead. Do not want to fit additional amp, sub etc, because the sound from OEM is very good and just needed a HU upgrade to play digital music files.
Help me please.

You'll probably find its the speakers mate, i did the same with mine and it sounded very poor, mine was the sport model with the amp and had the 8 speaker system fitted? Has yours got the 6 speaker setup or the 8? think the S model had the 6?

Well phil, you need to buy a supercharger to get the best sound from any HU Wink lol
But yeah, the bass in the MR2 was pretty good, not as good as the 200, but not far off really.
Its the S 6 speaker model mate @BANDIT

Why would it be the speakers mate? sounds good with OEM HU, but c**p with Clarion 4x40watt, Hyper bass expander, sounded superb in other cars but no good in Lex

because their not designed for a normal stereo system, their rated for another resistance than normal (either 2 or 4 ohms)

Cheers mate, so its all down to resistance,
Never had any probs with speaker resistance when I used to fit mega sounds in my car 15 yrs ago, ran amps with 2 and 4 ohms and mixed front and rear ohms resistance with hardly any noticeable sound quality, maybe less overhaul volume,
but never knocking that much bass out.
Wots the speaker ohms value in Lex, 2, 4

As Stav says mate, the speakers are rated different in the is200 for some bizarre reason, think there 2ohms in the is200? I ended up swapping all mine to normal speakers in the end so i could get the use out of my new headunit:biggrin:

any one got an old OEM HU 13096 for S with no amp, even if it has the dreaded error3, as I can then fit a GROM adaptor to play ipod,
My OEM HU will not switch to CD mode so the Grom adaptor will never be regognised.
Can not be bothered with speaker swap, mounting plates for rear shelf etc, unless any one has speakers and wooden plinths for sale.
