Any mechanics in the Glasgow, Edinburgh area for a homer?
Any mechanics in the Glasgow, Edinburgh area for a homer?
As title, is there anyone in the Glasgow area that could do a headgasket repair on my is200?
-My temp gauge has shot up a few times.
-Not really noticed any loss of coolant. although under the expansion cap there is a lot of rusty residue.
-No mayo gunk stuff underneath my oil cap.
-Low oil pressure light comes on when starting the car from cold, but disappears when temp reaches normal.
I took it to a garage on monday, thinking it was a dodgy switch or something that activates the fan as when the temp goes over normal the fan does not kick in. Although pressing A/C button turns it on. They told me they did a pressure test on it and they believe its 100% the head gasket.
Was hoping someone on here would be able to help me out with a decent price and hopefuly trustworthy!
Thanks in advance
Mo
Quote: Leaky Head Gasket -- A leaky head gasket can allow coolant to seep into the engine's cylinders or crankcase. Symptoms include a loss of coolant with no visible external leaks, and white steam in the exhaust, especially after restarting the engine when it has sit for awhile. A leaky head gasket can be diagnosed by pressure testing the cooling system, or by using a "block checker" that pulls air from the cooling system into a cylinder that contains a special blue colored leak detection liquid. If there are any combustion gases in the coolant, the color of the liquid inside the detector will change from blue to green indicating a head gasket failure .
Been looking for bits of info on your problem mate, this sounds like a good way to find if your head gasket has gone, by having it gas tested as below?

Will see if i can find anything else mate, but that does sound like a good thing to try if the mechanic can do it?

Hopefully it doesn't change colour mate, so at least you know its not the expensive part??
Another thing i've seen mentioned a few times is the water pump not working, If its not pumping the water round the engine and not cooling it through the radiator it'll overheat?
Think the best thing to do at the moment though is to see what the mechanic says and hopefully it wont be the head gasket?
I would get the oil changed too mate, if it hasn't been done for around 30k it's not going to help with old oil, i used to change mine every 3k miles which is a bit extreme but i do like to keep it clean, Think the service book states every 10k, so your oil will be very dirty by now and not getting round the engine when you start up, but when it warms up it'll get thinner so the light then goes out?
Hope you sort it mate, as its not great when things don't work how they should

100% head gasket the guy said he'd do it for £450 but id have to wait 2 weeks till he could start then another week to do the job coz of his shifts at work etc. id end up spending about £250 on transport to and from uni via work so not really worth it i dont think. Just going to take it to a garage down here, yea it'l be a bit more expensive but hes a trustworthy guy, so ive been told. Plus this way i'll get a reciept for the work done.
Asi- thanks mate but fife is a bit far for me. But do you think he could do it for cheaper than £650 ish?
