On the other side there is a discussion going on regarding where the mileage on a IS200 is stored.
Is the mileage stored on the odometer or on the ECU? Some say odometer, but I think its stored on the ECU.
If the mileage is stored on the odometer then what's stopping you from getting a low mileage odometer and fitting it to your high mileage IS200? To me this is a very easy way to clock a IS200.
I have no intention of clocking my or any other IS200- this question is purely to post back a reply on the other side.
Any ideas?
ECU mate - it stops people swapping the fascia and changing the mileage.
It is interconnected with the OBDII port IIRC
Thought so- thanks 2tongues.
Seems I was wrong then, and your logic did make sense actually. But that means if you make it stop by tampering with it, how do you make it work again? Do you need a new ECU?
You'd need to reprogram whatever chip it is that holds the mileage. On the Internet there are all sorts of websites offering highly dubious "mileage correction" services, in case you have a "problem" with your mileage reading.
I guess in the worst case if you've broken the ECU you may need a new one (though bear in mind the IS200 has several ECUs).
