Lucky Escape
Lucky Escape
No, not for me, but for one of the guys from Charlesworth Motors (who did my turbo conversion).
All the guys there are bikers, and the other weekend Simon was taking part in a motorbike race. He was lined up on the grid for the start, but some of those on the warm-up lap apparently (?) weren't watching what was going on, and someone crashed into him at 120mph cared:
This is what is left of one of his wheels :
The guy that hit him broke his neck. Simon had a broken rib, a crushed verterbra, and they still aren't sure if he might have a hairline crack in his pelvis. But he was straight away on painkillers and back at work, because he didn't want to "let the customers down". That's some dedication to duty IMHO !
I think he's very lucky he's still alive !
Anees ****** hell!! Hope he is ok!! Some of the stories Simon has told me of the scrapes/accidents he has had makes me think if his skeleton is actually made of granite!!

I hope the guy who hit him is banned from racing,
how much of an idiot was the guy?
Why would you be tearing down the straight at 120mph after your warm up lap? unless it was a rolling start which is like NEVER in motorcycle races?!?
Hope your friend is okay, sorry for the mini rant, idiocy annoys me lol
Apparently the guy who hit him is an instructor hock:
Gord They are not doing anything to the guy that hit Simon, Simon did complain, but they said they are putting it down as racing accident :Chair: race had not even started. wonder what would of happened if one of them had been killed :Chair:
There was 3 of them at the back all racing each other on the warm up lap, the one that hit Simon was leading them and looking back to see how far in front of his mates he was, he then looked forward to see them all stopped on the start/finish line, he did not even have time to brake

I can't believe nothing's being done about it, although a broken neck is a pretty severe punishment anyway - I'm assuming it's not life threatening but it's still pretty serious.
Very lucky escape for Simon though, glad it doesn't sound too bad considering - although I really don't think he should be back at work after that sort of injury, especially quite physical work as that could make things far worse. Someone please tell him to take some time off and rest up!
Pretty sure Simon won't listen even if you did say that ! I already said to him that I didn't think he should be at work. Even if he just ends up answering phones he wants to be there, but he's doing more than that !
Yes I think the guy who broke his neck isn't in a life-threatening condition.
