I just removed my downpipe, turbo and manifold. The downpipe has been on the car about 2 years and to my knowledge the turbo and manifold have never been removed. When I removed the downpipe in 2008 I snapped studs and bolts all over the shop, despite having left everything soaked in WD40 for at least 24hrs. So, these are 16yr old studs and nuts that have been heat cycled relentlessly.

I am happy to report that on switching to using "Plusgas Formula A" where I would normally use WD40 that not a single stud snapped!! Everything has come out totally cleanly, as if it were put together yesterday. That's 7 studs turbo -> DP, 4 studs mani -> turbo and 8 studs head -> mani.

Snapped head -> mani studs are a common horror story in MR2 land, and thanks to this magic spray I have managed to avoid that situation completely! Can't recommend it enough for scenarios where you need a good penetrating oil (shh). This is all it does, it's not as multi-purpose as WD40. You don't even need to leave it to work either, it's almost instant. I have my suspicions that it's just diesel and parafin but I don't really care, it worked wonders Smile

It's funny what it did to rust, I sprayed a bit on the manifold and then when I picked it up my hand came away brown and the mani was a lot cleaner!

wd40 is really **** - it doesnt do a good job of anything - jack of all, master of none etc etc

plus gas or free all is the way to go.

toxo I have my suspicions that it's just diesel and parafin but I don't really care, it worked wonders Smile

diesel is meant to be a good substance for loosening things up so I guess it would make a good additive Smile

I was rather shocked by the specific choice of positioning for the nut and bolt.... seems rather suggestive for a penetrating lubrica.... oh never mind
