Got pulled yesterday.......
Got pulled yesterday.......
.....and unfortunately not in a good way! :tongue_smilie:
Was sitting in a queue of cars at the lights, all pulled away as it went green, suddenly hear a siren and see blue lights in the rear view mirror. Pull over straight away thinking he just needed to get past, but then he stopped behind me so was a bit confused as to what it was for.
As I've always been told, jumped straight out of the car and went over to the policecar before they even had a chance to get out, and asked what the problem was. He replied "you tell me"
So even more confused I reply I honestly have no idea, is there something wrong with my car? And then he goes "were you wearing a seatbelt?" So I say yes I was, I just took it off when I got out of the car. And he says "I saw your belt hanging down"
So again I say, I don't mean to criticise your eyesight or anything but I literally just took my seatbelt off before I got out of the car, so I know I was wearing my belt. At this point he immediately tried to change the subject (which made it obvious it was a slightly dubious stop) and asked whether it was my car. Said it was, and I've owned it since new.
Again he was stuck, so he asked if I had my license. Gave it to him, and he called it in over the radio. At this point I think his partner knew that they had pulled over the wrong guy and got a bit chatty saying we've just got to make sure when we see something and stuff, to which I said that's fair enough, I've got nothing to hide so not too bothered. Got the all clear over the radio and they let me go
Not really that bothered about the whole experience, in fact I actually said to the policemen that I don't mind getting pulled over every so often if it means getting more uninsured drivers and stuff off the road.
The only suspicion I have though is that I don't think that's why they pulled me over. I wasn't in a great area at the time, so even though my car's old, in that area it was one of the nicer ones. And when they came over one of the policemen had a good look around the car through the windows, as though they were looking for an excuse to search it (random drugs search maybe?)
Either way just an interesting story I thought I'd share as it must be a common experience with us all being outlaws and all!

Just looking to stock up on the xmas fund with unecessary violationsTo be fair there was no harm done except taking a few minutes out of my day, and if it means they'll also be catching people without licenses/insurance/road tax then I don't mind

The police have to have a viable reason to stop you,
his claim your belt was hanging down was his sidestep to other questions and checking your vehicle,
they have no reason or right to randomly pull you over willy nilly, unless its a police checkpoint in which case you have to stop anyway
Ive had some seriously lame **** excuses for being pulled over before
the best one being "we noticed you had a headlight not working", to which i replied, "thats funny, its 1pm on a sunny afternoon so they werent even turned on?"
they soon left.................

plod round here are a bit dense.....
on a seperate note you dont actually have to stop for a police officer either, if you feel threatened or are unsure they are real you have 100% legal right to drive to the nearest police station and stop there..............
god im full of useless stuff today, almost on a par with my mobile phone knowledge :chair:
